Price Vs Retention
Anyone know how much difference there is in retention on a paysite based on price ?
logic tells me that a site at $4.95 will hold members longer than a site at $19.95 but I'm only guessing. Anyone care to share there experiences ? |

Are you talking the initial, "trial" price or the regular, recurring price?

you're leaving out the content. if a site is 4.95 and crappy, logically it'll have a lower retention than a site at 19 that's loaded
this seems obvious

Good question. I suppose you charge whatever the market will bear. What are other sites charging?

charge what the market will bear...for the mosty part, if a guy is turned on enough and likes the site enough, price isn't really a concern...

This is the million dollar question...
Take four paysites, A, B, C and D which are exact copies of each other. All have identical members area's, tours, all charge $2.95 for a 3 day trial, all have the same average traffic quality, and all have 1000 surfers each who just signed up for the trial. The only difference is in the rebill: paysite A charges $9.95, paysite B charges $19.95, paysite C charges $29.95, and D, $39.95 What percentage of surfers on A will rebill after the trial? Repeat for the other three. What percentage of A surfers rebill at one month, two months.. all the way to a year? Repeat for the other three. Problem with these sorts of Q's is that not too many people are qualified to make even an educated guess. And those who are probably ain't telling. I have a feeling its heavily dependent upon the niche. If all four sites were one eyed midget bondage, the difference between A B C and D's rebill rates would be surprisingly small, but the pool of potential members would be small also. If they were general hardcore, it would be much larger, but the pool of potential members would also be much bigger. So I guess the other real question is, all other things being equal, does the big ticket rebill advantage of a very tightly niched site outweigh the disadvantage of having a small member pool. For the more general site, is the relative lack of ability to rebill your members at high rates made up for by the large potential member pool? |
