God Bless the USA by Lee Greenwood

If tomorrow all the things were gone
I'd worked for all my life,
And I had to start again
with just my children and my wife,
    I'd thank my lucky stars
    to be living here today,
'Cause the flag still stands for freedom
and they can't take that away.

I'm proud to be an American
where at least I know I'm free,
And I won't forget the men who died
who gave that right to me,
And I gladly stand up next to you
    and defend her still today,
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
    God Bless the U.S.A.

    From the lakes of Minnesota
    to the hills of Tennessee,
    Across the plains of Texas
    from sea to shining sea.
    From Detroit down to Houston
    and New York to L.A.,
There's pride in every American heart
and it's time we stand and say:

I'm proud to be an American
where at least I know I'm free,
And I won't forget the men who died
who gave that right to me,
And I gladly stand up next to you
    and defend her still today,
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
    God Bless the U.S.A.

I'm proud to be an American
where at least I know I'm free,
And I won't forget the men who died
who gave that right to me,
And I gladly stand up next to you
    and defend her still today,
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
    God Bless the U.S.A.

I worked for MCA Records back when he was starting as a new artist, and subsequently when that album came out - we all knew right off the bat that song would be a hit - but never dreamed at the time that it would become so cherished.

It's great to see - he's a great guy, and very talented!

It's because you're new here. After you get 1000 posts, you'll be more aware of stuff like that.

And yes, it's one of his best pieces of work.

He is my Godfather... No joke. My dad was his legal guardian while he was on the road touring. I've heard the stories about him and how talented he was. I think the count on the instruments he plays is 18. I haven't seen him since I was a kid though. I wonder how he's been.

Lee Greenwood is a draft dodger, most military people know that and it makes us sick we swoon over him singing this song.
