Vacation in the caribbean (mexico etc)? Please help if you been there or live there.

    Hey

I'm having a VERY hard time finding the right vacation for me and my gf. We wanna go to someplace warm in the winter (january/february).

Mexico was my first choice but I was advised not to go there, same as Dominican Republic, Haiti etc, cause the landscape/hotels are all damaged and shit (hurricanes)

Aruba and Curacao should be fine but Mexico seems like way more fun

Anyone from the Caribbean? Mexico, Bahamas, Dominican etc? How is it there now? Dangerous to visit for a holiday with all the hurricanes now? I never been there so please forgive me if I'm talking crap here...

Which hotel/resort/country/island would you recommend to visit?

Price isn't an issue, I just wanna have a great vacation there with NO WORRIES at all. Just wanna go swimming with dolphins, maybe diving, drinking a few beers in a disco at night (preferable at the resort) and nice beaches/palm trees etc.

    What should I book?

    Thanks for your help!
    Mike

Hello Mike. I would suggest going in Greece. It's an awsome place( I was there this summer. Don't know if you can swim with the dolphins (I only swam with fish) but you can do a lot of other things. And if you want you can choose a mor elonely location like a 3 hotels complex so not a lot of people there to fuck your mind out (this in case you want to relax too)... as far as I know it is still sunny in there

See if you can find out how bad the hotel district in Cancun is. Cancun is hands down the funnest ciy I have ever been too. The night life is insane. Otherwise west coast of mexico is good still.

I'd recommend Barbados. As for which resort, that depends on your personal interests. Sam Lords Castle or The Crane (both on the south coast) are excellent resorts. The EdgeWater on the east coast is a picturesque and quiet resort. If you're in to sun and beach...then go with a resort on the west coast.

There's lots of things to see and do in Barbados, too. They've got two large cave systems (Harrison's Cave and Flower Pot Caves near Pico Teneriffe). A wildlife zoo. A few ruins to explore. Parasailing.

And if you choose Barbados...you HAVE TO spend at least a day at Bottom Bay! (the most beautiful white sand, torquoise water beach you can imagine).

              My

I've been to Mexico twice now, it's great fun. Don't go Cancun side, go to the West Coast [Puerto Vallarta / Nuevo Vallarta] it's fantastic, a lot more laid back, loads of hotels and stuff that caters to people just wanting to relax. I believe the specific area that I went to both times was Bucerias [sp] still thinking about whether to go again in Dec/Jan or try a new location, but Mexico will always be my fall-back holiday destination now.

Though it sounds like you've already counted Mexico out, incase you haven't I would advise you not to go there. I was in Puerto Vallarta 5 or 6 years ago and it was a complete hell hole. Thank God we stayed at the Westin, it was a great hotel, but as soon as you walked off the property it was like you were magically transported to the ghetto. Although if you want to not leave the hotel property, I say go for it. Try the pizza in the pool, its good.

If money truly isn't an option check out Bora Bora. The rooms average around $1000 per night, but look at the place.

Cancun is very Americanized, not to mention under a bit of water right now, so planning a trip there over the next couple of months might or might not pan out. It wouldn't be my choice of Mexican destinations... Puerto Vallarta or Acapulco are much more sophisticated and I like both places. Maybe PV was "ghetto" five years ago but the last two times I've been down there, it's been great. Cabo is also another good choice, especially if you and the girl like fishing.

Curacao is wonderful. It and St Maarten are my favorite places in that part of the Caribbean. You can't go wrong with either of them, especially if you like to dive, gamble, snorkel, sail, etc. Bonaire's not bad but it's very quiet without that much to do outside of water activities. Aruba is more like Cancun -- very Americanized.

Curacao's got the dolphin swims, shark feeding, diving, great beaches, a more sophisticated culture than most third world type countries -- as a matter of fact I don't think I'd really call it a true third world country. St Maarten is half French and half Dutch so you get to do completely different activities on each side. The Dutch side has gambling, the French side has great beaches and restaurants. And St Barts is a quick boat trip away if you want to go for the day.

You don't say where you are flying into the Caribbean from, that might have some bearing on what is the least amount of hassle in transit.

Go to Egypt (Sharm El Sheikh), you will love the fish over there.

                          Or go to St Maarten!

me and my friend was in dominican republic a few years ago and it was my best vacation ever. Gotta love all inclusive, sitting in the pool bar, great food etc Not sure how it is right now with the hurricanes, but I suggest you ask your local traval agency.
