is there really any difference between any of the companies? say exxons 93 as compared to citgos 93?

and does it really make a difference if you use 89 in a modern day car instead of 91/93

i think its all a crock of shitttttttt simply beacuse i had a honda that i drove till 150k and only put 89 in it and then i had a ford that i drove to 120k with only 93 in it and they both ended up driving decent.....oh i am so confused

I worked in the petroleum industry for 18 years as a service technician.Every company has differant standards.They mix some additives at their refinery to their blends of gas. I.E. Techroline for chevron.So every gas company has differant blends

it doesnt matter who you buy your oil from, every company out there is based in bad countries with bad policies...USA, saudi arabia, russia, etc...

Some cars will run like shit on regular..you'll notice the pinging and run on.But if your car runs fine on it ,use regular.More high performance cars use/need the supreme

In most cases you can run regular gas with no probs, even in cars that recommend. Just put a tank of 93 in every 3-5 tanks to help keep things clean.

Unless you push your car VERY hard, take lots of hills or are towing, you're not going to notice it.

That is wrong, the average car is designed for 89

put the cheapest gas in your car and if you hear the engine pinging go to the next level and so on.

The only time higher octane is of any benefit is if the car pings on the recommended grade, the timing is advanced, compression is higher than stock, or the car has forced induction. Pinging occurs when the spark occurs too early in the cycle. If the fuel/air charge is not compressed enough (i.e. harder to light) the charge explodes rather than burning at a controlled rate. The two means of eliminating this condition are to a) use higher octane fuel which is more resistant to ignition and burns slower and cooler (roughly 1 degree per point of octane) or b) retarding the ignition timing. This is exactly what happens when the knock sensor detects pinging.
