I think Authentix from Flicks will do what you want to do... although it might be overkill...

.htaccess is a module for apache or am I wrong ? It's probably not installed on your apache webserver. Apache runs on nt as well so it is possible to implant .htaccess there as well but most nt servers run IIS

no .htaccess is a file in what you put all rules in , afterwards you can put it in a folder to be the rules when people take the files in folder.

It is not a mod of apache. For protect hotlinking, the mod_rewrite module should be added in apache. However, I'm not sure how to install the mod_rewrite. And also it seemed that rewrite rules are not helpful to stop hotlinking, people still have a lot of ways to jump your .htaccess.

It seems a lot of webmaster here, what did they do for their own servers?

Who can teach me?

ah mod_rewrite it was , htaccess stops basic hotlinking. If someone really want to hotlink you there is always ways. Just like that pornosaur guy that keep stealing all feeds, he seams unstopable. But most people will stop if the picture dont show up on there page, and just find a nother site to steal from.
