Canadian Leftists Crack Down on Strip Clubs
Strip club fined over sex-toy performances
Quote: "A strip club in St. John's has been fined $6,000 on two charges of violating an obscure part of the Criminal Code. Bubbles Gentlemen's Club was charged in April with violating section 167 of the Criminal Code, which deals with what's called "immoral theatrical performance." Montreal stripper Marie-Andrée Lauriault ? who works under the stage name Tangerine Dream ? performed explicit shows using sex toys in February and April. Now...I'm familiar with this show. And CBC's description is disingenuous. Quote: "Lauriault was also charged after the performances, but the charges against her with withdrawn. Bob Simmonds, a St. John's lawyer who represented Lauriault, said earlier this year it is rare for anyone to be charged with "immoral theatrical performance." In the last Tangerine Dream show, Lauriault attempted to set what she called a "gang-bang record." Witnesses said 177 men and women lined up along the Bubbles stage to penetrate Lauriault with a sex toy. If that were true, it would be a gross form of entertainment. Not that I think the government should be involved, just a personal opinion. But...it's not true and it's an innacurate descriptription of her show. I wont bore you with the details of her show, but lets just say it involves remote control cars. So...why are leftist media outlets (the CBC) spreading agit-prop against this industry? And... Why are leftist governments (apparently now on an international level) cracking down on adult cabarets? St. John's Mayor Andy Wells gives us some insight: "We're not in the business of regulating morality. We regulate occupancy" Still...the law for which the club is being fined under is section 167 of the Criminal Code, which deals with what's called "immoral theatrical performance." Canadians got the memo. |

Yeah... we've been trying to get rid of that whole "Immoral Theatrical Performances" bullshit law for years. In Vancouver a couple years ago, one of our sex-positive activists staged a live sexual act for the public. It flew completely in the face of the archaic law, there was a big media buzz, and nobody got arrested. It should just take a few more years of civil disobedience precedents before we finally get that law licked.
The biggest problem is that the term "immoral" has not been quantitatively defined in the Canadian lawbooks, making it subjective instead of objective. It's all bullshit -- consenting adults should be able to do whatever the fuck they want when it comes to sex! |
