DMOZ listing

How do you get a DMOZ listing these days, or does it matter.

you start off by submitting your site to them, in the most appropriate sub category.

and yes, if you can get listed there it is a very good thing

There are too many good search engines using DMOZ so yes if you get listed there you will get listed on hundreds of directories and SE's

and it really increases your PR -
first u are in dmoz which is very good dor the importance of the site for google
second - u r in the google groups (which are reorganised dmoz) which for second time oncreases your pr and importance...

and... if u are in dmoz in most cases your PR will be minimum 5 and u will get a lot of free targeted seo traffic...

BUT it is really hard to get there if u dont know any moderator there...
AND u have to wait a lot of time to get listed after u submit your site

luck!

Best way I find if it's adult that is, is too use the advanced search on DMOZ, type the category name that best fits your site then hit submit, u can usually get your category from there!

Or simply go to google and type your primary keyword and browse through the listings, 9/10 it'll come up there!

Best way to get listed is to become an editor.. most catagories haven't been updates in months and months.

I wish this was true but it does give a small PR boost and almost zero traffic.

I know a guy that was a moderator for DMOZ a few years back and he told me this also.

Which category? They don't have to send you a reply nor are they obliged to list you - some will give a courtesy email if you're missing a minimal point to get listed. Most often, people just submit the same site in different categories *regardless if it fits or follows rules* in hopes the editors don't notice it.

Oh and I hear it all the time - they only list their own sites and their friends. My 'friends' - get a full explanation of why they didn't get listed in the category I edit. My own sites? One out of 4 are listed in the category & that's because another editor had approved it prior to me becoming an editor.

The allure of a DMOZ listing is not what it once was...too much corruptions on the part of the editors and the traffic really is a mute point.

Also..I really think Yahoo Directory is better than DMOZ now. I get lots more traffic from it than I do any of my DMOZ listings.

DMOZ is all but useless now. It's completely irrelevant, corrupted and like many have pointed out - the traffic is so little, it's barely worth the effort to get listed.

ACK from the Yahoo submission form....

For sites that include adult content or services, the nonrefundable initial fee is US$600 and the recurring annual fee is US$600. The higher cost for sites with adult content reflects the fact that Yahoo! directory team uses a more complex and time-intensive review process for sites offering adult content and/or services.
