Last piece of advice...
If you do get lucky, consider it that... don't treat other people with disrespect no matter what their job or posistion is. I never disrespected anyone in that way, if you were interesting to talk too, I would talk to you... no matter if your a janitor or CEO of a major corp. Every one just wants to get by.. I made good money with Lens when I started with him, not stupid money but good, I made lots of friends. Then I got what I consider stupid money. I never treat any people different, other then I was able to help if needed. Those people are still my friends. I know Lexi posted "owes" but, thats not really true.. I have never asked anyone for a dime back since, nor will I ever. I gave when I had it, no restriction or expectations.... |
Piece of advice (ok 2)...
1. Learn to take the hints given to you. 2. If your widdle feewing get hurt, get over it... be a man. :thumbsup |
Mike is the man.

I'm lucky to be able to afford a few toys, the rest will probably go into real estate. I wish I had the balls to invest back into the stock market, but I just cant bring myself to doing it after taking a big loss. Keep your head up, you will regain what you once had someday soon. The skills we learn along the way are sometimes priceless. Your good nature, and your experience will work in your favor. Good luck to you, you're a good man. :thumbsup |

sad thread actually.

But the question is, how did it happen that you are out of money? You just spent everything without earning any money?
|
Quote:
It took 6 months to loose the last piece, and I was spending so much trying to keep all my bills paid, that it did not leave enough to get into something new. Trust me, the bills don't go away, they just get much larger .. everything is relative. Poor planning... is what it boils down to.. Poor?? actaully how about NO planning... The only reason I keep responding, is so that if others get the chance, try to learn from my mistakes... Invest, Invest, Invest.. branch out... Kind of like winning the lottery... if you spend all cash, then its gone.. I remember reading an article in Canada about lottery winners... generally the Canadian lotteries have small payouts, but are won frequently... Most people that win 1-3M will file bankruptcy with in 5 five years. I remeber thinking.. ya right how stupid could they be... now I know why. Why.. because the money came as lighting strike (same as me), you did not build it, building it provides you with the tools to manage it. Without those tools or a good financial advisor, that you will listen to (but who wants to be told what to do with your money), it will be gone in in a fairly short period of time. Anyone seen the kids movie "Blank Check"... while its a funny movie and over dramatic, for adults it should have a deeper truer meaning... Enought said on this topic... |

This is why i come to GFY.
:glugglug |
well one more post... just to put the "lighting strike" into perspective..
xxxxx changed my mind |

I was stupid, very very bad handleing on my part. I'm not ashamed of it, I screwed up.. If one person here gets the chance, and remebers this thread, great.. Its not a "poor" me thread, more of a don't let this happen to you, because it can. So its not sad, its real life... the only "sad" part is the way I handled the money Not sad as in depressed, sad is in "how f'ing stupid".. |
For those of you that don't know....
My sudden money came from a deal with Lens and Internet Eraser... While I wrote it, thats only 10% of the biz, the rest is marketing. He gave me the world and I pissed it away... |
this thread is all over the place! i now think i know more about mike69's life than my own dad's. keep your head up mike, once you hit rock bottom...theres nowhere to go but up.

And why did you quit adult.com? |

and thats personal... |

sry... actually.. I'll tell ya some of it... the part that everyone thinks they know the whole story on... there were billing issues with Interenet Eraser.. it was with Webside Billing when it went under... First I moved it to my merchant account.. that got closed due to fraud.. Then I moved it to my Paycom account... but most of the damage was already done, ie Webmaster has sales dropped so some much, it was not being pushed as much and the market was now flooded with the same type of software. I finially left for good (was still doing some stuff part time) in Feb- Mar.. Once I left, I stopped Paying Lens any money for it. I left him holding the bag for any affiliate sales ect.. till June when Lens switched to his Paycom account.. Thats the popular story, so I don't mind making it public.. There was a lot more to what happened than that, but thats between me and Lens.. In so far as why did I leave Adult.com? I wanted to go one direction, Lens wanted to go an other. Affiliate scripts ect, get pretty boring after a while. Life is short, this is not a trial run, you have to do what makes you happy. |
edit: oops.........

You know Mike, I admire your honesty. Too bad most people immediately turn on leech mode and want to know what colour boxershorts you're wearing.
You're absolutely right about those people who win the lottery and later on are more broke than before they won it. The best thing you could possibly do when a large sum of money suddenly comes your way is invest it carefully. Make sure that the things you buy do not turn into liabilities when the money runs dry. Expensive cars and big boats are fun, but they need insurance, maintainance and gas to run. What will you do later on when you can't afford to play with the toys you own? It's very easy to fall for the millionaire lifestyle trap that gets handed to you when you have nice money. As for me, I try to manage my money very carefully. Even though I make very nice money, I know exactly what I have and what I can spend. I treat myself to a toy every know and then but only do it when I'm sure I can afford it and can keep affording it in the future. The rest of my money goes into investments. Even though most people on this board are still in college or do this besides their steady income job, there are also people (like me) who solely depend on their businesses for their income. It is therefor absolutely necessary to be financially sensible. Even though it might sound like heaps of fun to live your life like a rockstar now, it might backfire in the future. This doesn't mean you shouldn't have fun and enjoy your life. Money is just a means to an end. I think your experience was very positive and healthy in the sense that it made you realise what was important. You're not worried about money anymore and you shouldn't. The money part could come back as easily as it went away. Your attitude has changed for the better and already puts you ahead of most people, both now and in the future. Good luck! :thumbsup |

Some people don't get a second chance, I know you will! As you remember, how much we did back in the day, and how stupid we were. Both Nick and I got another chance to do it again, and *make* more money than we did the first time around. This time around, there's no Vipers or Benz's, no 1000.00 dinners, no hard partying 6 days out of the week. It's easy to make the money, it's harder to keep it. |
Quote:
Ya, Vipers and (in my case) Hummers are out, next time around, well I miss the H2 kinda, I really liked driving that.. but thats the beauty of this biz... Keeping working hard, and you should get another shot to correct the mistake you've made... L |
I am not a fan of former employees degrading a program publicly. Email and icq work just fine.
|
Quote:
He wasn't degrading the program at all, he found a little mistake called them up (as he has done a few times) and got hung-up on....if you read the whole story you would have seen, all those steps were taken. If an ex employee called your programmer up to say he ran acrossed a problem, would you expect any of your employees to hang-up on him? How would you have handled it? It would have been different if he had been rude about it, or laughing ect... He would have done it for anybody...I guess people who might find a mistake in one of your programs, should just ignore it? |
Quote:
But I do hire sale's staff. That said, what is the point of putting it on GFY? Why does the entire community need to know he was hung up on? He isn't the only one that has had a bad experience with a program's service, difference is most of us do not need to start a thread about it. Me? Email Lens, let him worry about it. I am sure Lens has a handle on his business though. |

It sounds to me like this Mike chap was simply trying to let someone know that they were having a problem.
I do it daily with people I know and people I don't know and am never looking for anything in return. Two minutes of my time to let someone know they're potentially losing money is well worth it imo. If I'm looking for ANYTHING, perhaps I'm hoping they'll reciprocate if they find something wrong with something of mine. |
Too late to edit-
I meant to say props to you Mike for trying to look for out for others. :thumbsup Your honesty about your money issues in the land of GFY millionaires is also refreshing. |
Mike is a stand up guy who has helped me many times in the past.
hope all is going well for you and Lexi. |

No way.. I would never go back to adult.com, nor would Lens have me back.. thats a done deal... In so far as wanting an other job.. do you really think I have not had offers? I am not in the least bit interested in going back to affiliate scripts ect.. way to boring.. As some people here know, the stuff I have been working on is way to cool to just leave behind. I was just giveng people a peek into what can happen. I have no regrets. I've spent the last two years developing some stuff and it will be ready soon.. so I am not worried about anything at all.. but its interesting that you made that conclusion.. I think your the only that has... |
I can say I did Learn lots of things from this Thread :)
thanks Mike :) |
