I want to buy the best s-video cable, what should I look for or ask?

I want to hook up my computer to my TV which are 40 feet apart from one another, and I need the images to be clear, not snowy. What cand of S-video should I ask for that will do the job.

Gold-plated doesn't improve the picture quality. They just help prevent corrosion over the long term. You won't notice a difference in picture quality between a regular svideo cable and an overpriced brand. But the overpriced brands will be better build quality so you don't need to worry about them getting pinched or falling apart.

the only thing you should really remember is...when you go to get the cable, feel them out, literally....if you find one that is flimsy and winds easy, it probably won't last long...i go through those cheap-o's on a monthly basis

find a cable that is tough, thick and feels durable...and gold plated connectors if you live in a humid area so it doesn't rust or corrode over the years....I personally like the ones you can barely bend, i have had a couple of those that have never fucked up

I'm told for long cables(I want to get a 40 feet+ one), quality of the image depends on the cable used!

Umm have not seen anyone mention this yet but you can get a signal amp so that the 40 feet is no longer an issue.

Don't waste money on overpriced cables, their markup is like 900%, it's a complete scam.

Check out this site, tons of super cheap cables and gear:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/su...d=10207&style=

Edit: yea look at this one, 50" heavy duty gold ends, $5.84

jesus dude, you ready to get ripped off much? with all the internet shops and wholesalers on the net selling retail, there is NO reason to pay any more than $30 for the cable he is talking about....and usually if you look hard enough, you can find it for $10

I don't think $100 for a high-resolution cable is expensive. if you want it to carry the delicate video signal over greater lengths with much less attenuation, you got to be willing to pay the price IMO. Tho I'm not saying cables you can't find less expensive ones.

no, but as with most electronic related items on the internet...with 10 more minutes of searching you can find the same item for 1/10 the price...that is all I am saying

all these people on here talking about how much monster cables cost, it leads me to believe that a lot of people on this board would have much more money saved if they would shop around for cheaper prices

never take the first price, and always assume the next shop has it cheaper ;)

hey man
this is my setup for a pretty damn sharp image:
- a 3 feet monster s-video cable in the pc
- extended by a 40 feet NORMAL s-video cable, from the monster cable to the tv.
- tv tool software (http://tvtool.info/index_e.htm)

And this is very sharp. A bit tweaking with the settings of tv tool and what not on the pc, but the result is almost perfect.
Note by the way that the extension cable isnt on purpose, it was a cable i still had lying somewhere, but it did the trick. Id say if you have one 40 feet MONSTER cable the picture is even sharper, so i would go for that. But a normal cable is fine too, doesnt make that big difference.

Oh and dont forget to get some audio cables too

My first question would be how good is your vid card in your comp?
Is S-video your best TV imput available?
40ft S-video run is long - dont go over board on the cable itself but more importantly is getting a strong signal to the TV
probably can ge a black box that will boost and clean up the signal but
if the signal is not High quality coming out of your vid card that the rest is pointless.
