In the US anything under 20 grams is a misdemeanor, over 20 grams is a felony possibly with intent to sell. Both will get you a criminal record.

nada, it is decriminalized now, which means you do not get a record unless you have over a half oz (if i am not mistaken)

only 1 person has gone to jail for GROWING weed in this city in the past year.

the great thing about calgary is you can roll down the street smoking weed, pull up to lights smoking joints, people will look over and not even care, it is a big part of our culture especially in western Canada.

In Victoria, BC they'll basically take it away. If you happen to be in a place where you'd need to drive to get home (like Mt. Tolmie) they'll tow your car for a nominal fee and send you off by cab. You'll be told to have a session with another officer at the station a day or two later who'll patiently explain that what you're doing is wrong. The session will last about 15-20 minutes, and you will feel completely unchanged except for a sense of relief that it's done.

Unless you happen to be a lippy bitch who doesn't want to cooperate, and who instead of just admitting that "yes you caught me" decides to make a stand for her own personal sense of justice. In that case you'll be taken in, strip-searched, printed, processed, and will spend the night in a cold cage, or two nights if over the weekend. You will be fed cold McDonalds. yeah, my point was that possession charges here are laughable since the police don't really pursue those, so the only way you're likely to get any kind of jail time is if you have enough to be classified as a dealer, or if you happen to piss off the cops when they catch you with it.. but even then, you won't really get in much trouble - at least that's my understanding, I could be wrong the law changes here frequently on that subject

I just found some stats showing the average prison times awarded depending on the amount the perp was caught with..

# HASH:
200 grams = 30 days
1 kg = 3 months
10 kg = 10 months
100 kg = 3 years
800 kg = 8 years

# HEROIN/COCAINE:
20 grams = 4 months
100 grams = 1 year
200 grams = 2 year
300 grams = 3 year
The longest punishment that has been awarded in a drug related case in Denmark was 10 years for 10kg of coke..

Amphetamin and Ecstasy and similar drugs are rated similarly to heroin and coke.. maybe a bit milder..

anything less than those amounts are fined..

They summon you, then they let you go. The next day they make you walk 10 miles on a particularly hot day to the impound lot to get your car back.

Actually, my buddy got caught with about 7 grams and that's what happened. Of course, I was in the car with him and found in particularly funny how the officer tried to scare all of us by saying we are all going to jail. Of course, I was 16 at the time.

You say "Well, officer, my law-abiding friends here had no idea I had marijuana in the car". Your friends agree and pronounce pure disbelief that your nice, supposidly law-abiding citizen friend would ever touch the evil devil weed. Your friends are let go. They arrest you, impound your car, take you to the station and ask you how much you bought this for. You say $40 and they all laugh at you and tell you that you got ripped off and that you don't have the hook-up. Then they tell you to keep smoking pot, but not while driving. They summon you, then they let you go. The next day they make you walk 10 miles on a particularly hot day to the impound lot to get your car back. Actually, my buddy got caught with about 7 grams and that's what happened. Of course, I was in the car with him and found in particularly funny how the officer tried to scare all of us by saying we are all going to jail.
