New NBA dress code = Racist

Or so a millionaire NBA player says

http://www.breitbart.com/news/2005/10/19/D8DBG9H8H.html

Everything's racist nowadays... from leaving toilet seats up to having flat feet. Man oh man, how will society survive?

everyone always has something to bitch about... its not racism, its the law or probability. ...And a over-active media pressance.

Philadelphia's Allen Iverson also was critical of the new rule, which the NBA made teams aware of in a memo Monday.

"I feel like if they want us to dress a certain way, they should pay for our clothes," he said. "It's just tough, man, knowing that all of a sudden you have to have a dress code out of nowhere. I don't think that's still going to help the image of the league at all."
That is hilarious. I'm sure Iverson has a difficult time scraping up a couple bucks to dress appropriately.

Most jobs have dress codes and images to uphold, poor babies.

So much racism in America, man. I mean, where else can you see Chinese, Armenians, Persians, Koreans, who were dirt poor in their home country work and buy 4 bedroom houses and nice cars? That damn racism is to blame cuz if it weren't for American racism, they'd have MORE cars and homes. DAMN RACISM! Im so angry I can cry.

You still wear a suit, you still could be a crook," Richardson said in Oakland, Calif. "You see all what happened with Enron and Martha Stewart. Just because you dress a certain way doesn't mean you're that way.

"Hey, a guy could come in with baggy jeans, a do-rag and have a Ph.D., and a person who comes in with a suit could be a three-time felon. So, it's not what you wear, it's how you present yourself."
If I were to randomly select 100 people in suits and 100 people in baggy jeans and do-rags, which group would more likely have the greater number of felons? Which group would more likely have the greater number of highly educated people?

i think theyre enforcing the dress code to take the "thug" label away from the NBA (RON ARTEST ANYONE?)... this would pound home the idea of classy "NBA basketball", and strip the hiphop culture that publically surrounds the NBA..

i'm interested to see if the "classy NBA" vibe would generate more dollars..

Not Racist it's professional. The players represent the league and it's the NBAs right to want a professional image for itself

hahahaha - David Stern is a fucking hypocrite - the NBA encouraged hip hop culture in the NBA like no other sport, every time I see an NBA produced event, half time show, whatever all I'm axin' is 'Got anything for us white folk to look at?'

it does seem kinda racist - in the arena i think the players who are in civilian clothes on the bench should have to wear whatever their bosses tell them to just like every other employee on the planet but the NBA is dictating this dress code beyond the arena - too far.

if David Stern cares so much about the appearance of the NBA so much he should ban Jeff Van Gundy first!

However multicultural any country is, standards for the country as a whole are naturally determined by the perception and views of the majority of its people. Inevitably such standards will differ from those of minorities within the community, but it is misleading to claim that applying them is - per se - racist.

Very true. But Americans have such a massive guilt trip about past racial injustice that race hustlers and retards that can't cut it always cry racism cuz it gets them freebies. White majority just shakes its head and complies.

It would suck for future generations of minorities who grow up with a feeling of entitlement when there's a backlash.

Given the way its going, there will be NO END to racism (as currently formulated) because racism conveys advantages to the socalled victims--from preferences to quotas to increased visibility, there's too much $$$ and power at stake with playing the race card for people to voluntarily give up that card.

So whitey will just have to take it up the ass with no lube until there's a backlash and people will just say.. "Cry racism all you want but I'm going to expect the same results from you as anyone else. If you end up in the bottom of the barrel its because of your choice."

A Dress code, in and of itself, is not racist.

How many of our teen agers do not know how to dress for a job interview?

He/she who has the gold has the power. And, if the NBA says wear a suit, then shut up and wear a suit. The race, religion card has been pulled too many times.

STFU and do what those who pay your handsome salaries tell you to do. Such is life.

While it is true that being told not to look "hip hop" has racial overtones I'm having trouble working up much sympathy for a bunch of millionaires that are pissed the boss wants them to present themselves a certain way. The guy that works at McDonald's has to wear a uniform for minimum wage.

It appears to be racist yes because the league is mostly black. But ultimately people need to dress appropriate for nearly every job out there. Those people wearing suits to work are not compensated, it's apart of having the job. I think all atheletes should have a certain dress code when presenting themselves in public.

Nothing about the dress code is racist. They are simply asking the players to follow a dress code when the are going/leaving the arena. Just as an employer would ask an employee to dress appropriately when in the office. I don't care if you play basketball or work at Mcdonalds.

This is just crazy - I know playing in college and professionally in football - you were expected to wear a shirt and tie on all team functions - what's the difference your representing your school or organization - you therefore dress appropriately. It doesn't stop them from wearing their "bling" to clubs and on their leisure time. It's nothing that wouldn't be expected from any other employer.

I think a good part of there market is young blacks and they like to see how these guys are living and all the bling .. and as far as it being a dress code i can see the jeans and shit .. but to say that these guys can't wear a necklace is crazy to me .. people love character and if you take away there individual style it think it's bad for the fans. I'm not a basketball fan but the few guys i know are either legends or very flashy guys that get attention ..

It seems like every year they treat the players more and more like kids. The force rookies to go though all kinds of training from finanance to behavior. The sad part about it is that it's needed so much. Now they have to tell them how to dress.

They don't like it? Then they should go do something else!! Wait a minute, they don't know how to do anything else. The NBA doesn't need them, they need the NBA. Little do they realize that there are thousands of young black kids that would love to sit in their shoes even if they're required to dress "professionally."

Maybe it's because every year the players are acting more and more like kids.

It is sad that, somewhere along the line, children grew up without knowing how to dress for a job interview....they don't know to take out the tongue ring, the piercings, put on a decent pair of fitted pants...just for the interview..to make that impression. They mumble and no one can understand what they're saying.

As to the bling? Some of these chains are ridiculous, no matter who wears them. From the days of Mr. T with his 'slave' statement bling around his neck to now. Who is anyone kidding? I love gold. I love jewelry. Is it because I'm a Jew? Probably. But, at least I don't get neck injuries from the weight.

As to showing off the money, that's easy. Buy Versace or Armani. Big difference between Sears and the designer clothing.

Yeah I agree. I'd be embarassed to have to go to mandatory classes teaching me how not to blow all my money in 2 weeks. Now they have to be told what to wear on and off the court.

I agree, I think to ask them to wear suits is not a big deal at all but to ask them not to wear their jewellery is out of line. I wear a lot of jewelery if someone asked me not to wear it I would be mad.

Better they should be embarrassed than end up on the streets after THE career stopping injury or a lengthy suspension...or whatever comes down the pike.

I just wish that schools would enforce dress codes again....and offer 'how to live in the real world' classes, so this could be prevented...

They are employees being told by their boss to follow a dress code ... nothing more, nothing less. I think it's a good thing.

well personally i think as idolized as they are they should be required to dress when at social functions and not act like its not a job because to me it is and a very important one because many children look up to them on how to act

The NBA has announced that a dress code will go into effect at the start of the season. Players will be required to wear business-casual attire when involved in team or league business. They can't wear visible chains, pendants or medallions over their clothes.

What the fuck is wrong with that???

I don't see shit wrong with that.. it's team business, show some fucking respect for the team and the nba...

You're allowed to wear whatever you want outside the clubhouse or off the court...

This is just a stunt to get some publicity..
