Here a PIC and solid advice for FLORIDA people. DO NOT IGNORE THIS and Add Stuff

Ok, I have been through a hurricane before in South Florida. Please take this advice.

Right now, at this very moment, do yourselves a world of pre planning and do the following. I know it's not hard to believe but it is relly the insurance companies job to NOT pay you for losses.

1) Take photos of everything of value that you may want to claim in the event of your shit being owned by this hurricane. Upload those photos to a server, do not leave it on your harddrive. Harddrives and water dont mix.

2) Take all receipts and important paperwork to a safe deposit box at your bank.
(this would include. Receipts and documentation for all those things you are taking pictures of). Don't think for a minute that the insurance company is going to give you 2500 bucks for a tv that you said you paid 2500 dollars for from an ad in the newspaper.

3) Get Beer. Lots of it. Trust me you will drink it warm. I will. On the real, get water too.

4) A) If you evacuate, Cover electonics with mattress pad covers. They are very thick and can take a beating. A big screen wrapped in one of these can survive unless something falls on it.

If leaving: B) Unplug everything except the refrigerator. Surges in power will fuck up your shit.

If leaving: C) Tell someone you are going so your neighbors can loot your house. No seriously, let them know so they can keep an eye out if you trust them. Otherwise, post a big ass sign on your front door saying " Paranoid Schitzophrenic with loaded shotgun inside this dwelling, and hungry!"

5) At the very least, invest in one of those fire safes that are waterproof and fireproof and put your most important documents in them.

Please feel free to add to this list.

I am sure the webmasters in N.O. and Texas will tell you not to underestimate this thing. It is taking the same path that Charly did and is much stronger. This is a stronger Hurricane than Katrina was and Bigger than Rita. I hope this bitch stays away from us.

Right now the computer models are all out of sync with each other. So this could go anywhere.

It all depends on the cold front coming down from the North which way this goes.

Recently these forecasters have been off quite a bit.

So yeh plan, but don't freak out. Also since this is a west side storm the east coast won't get as intense winds or surge as if it was a east side approach.

i agree with this statement 100%. This is a precautionary notice on my part because I have been through one in south florida years back. that one was kinda fun. this one doesn't seem like fun at all.

the forecasters are having a tough time deciding if Wilma will phase, link or move out to sea...

latest models I looked at said the Keys were going to bear the brunt of the storm..but I am sure that will change by the 11pm update.

Hey Airek what site is that taken from? I visit http://www.flhurricane.com for alot of info. They are bunch of Florida Meteorologists and are pretty accurate with their predictions. I am with you KRL, the models are suggesting some crazy shit but we have to wait and see.

I was in Miami when Andrew hit, and I can say that although A1R3K has made some valid points, if the storm is the size of andrew, there will not be much you can do but kiss your ass good by. The photograph thing is the best plan. that way the insurance company will have something to work with. Burn the images to cd. they get wet, they are still good.

Well, we live in Cancun. We have the windows boarded up, bags packed and are leaving first thing in the morning. We live about 100 feet from the ocean and I can tell you that the waves are getting big and the water looks so different from when Emily came. It's strange how ominous it feels around here, like we are packing to never come back. It's a different atmosphere now. Feels really bad.

KRL, to be taken seriously as a weather forecaster, you must mention "THE NORTH EAST QUADRANT" at least every other paragraph

If you don't have one, get a first aid kit just in case.

TAKE CARE OF YOUR PETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Take them with you if at all possible!! If you can't take them with you, leave them in the care of someone you KNOW can handle them through the storm.

Take enough meds and water for at least a week per person.

Have extra batteries for EVERYTHING.

Get a NOAA weather radio and keep it tuned to your local area reciever.

Have a "I'm safe" call plan for your family. How this works: Contact someone who lives OUTSIDE the predicted storm path, (and you're welcome to use me if you like), and give them your family's names, ages, and location. Once the storm is over, CALL THAT PERSON to check in and let him or her know that you and your family are safe. If you should get separated from family members, call in anyway and tell your contact what's going on. Make sure every family member knows to do this should you get separated, so that your contact can inform them and/or you of each other's whereabouts. (If you'd like to use me as your contact, icq me at 11120676 for my phone number and we'll set ya up.)

Take a family picture NOW. Get the film developed, put a date on the back, and mail it to your contact or another relative in case you get separated. This will assist searchers in locating your family and getting you guys back together safely.

And please, don't imagine that "this storm won't be that bad." Too many people have already made that mistake.

*HUGS*

Look... I got on my phone earlier that this is the QUOTE and thats a FUCKING QUOTE "biggest hurricane in recorded history".

My advice is don't waste time on "extra batteries" and "canned food". GET THE FUCK OUT. If I lived (and my family) anywhere even near this shit we'd be mid-america by now.........

For those who CAN'T get out, my advice is good. Hell, it's good anyway, simply because not everyone can get out who needs to get out. Sadly there's too many folks and not enough time. IMHO, those who are WAY inland can better stick it out than those on the coast. (And no, I'm not trying to advocate that those folks stay there. I'm just playing Devil's Advocate and trying to help where I can while still trying to keep a hold of what little brain power I have left at this point.)

But yes, if you can, GET THE FUCK OUT.

Yep, pets are important. I take my cat with me when we leave, after all, he is part of our family. And as for everything else, we still have most things ready from when Emily hit....

This is bad already. We've has gusts up to 50 MPH I think. The water is coming over our storm wall and I'm considering getting my family out tonight.

The area we live in can become isolated with deep salt water long before the storm actually hits.

I have a 6 hour drive through the jungle tomorrow, and I'm considering buying a chain saw.

I have 4 more nails to drive into concrete but I have to rest my arm. I boarded up a neighbor who is alone tonight and our entire house.

I think on this one the boards were a waste of time.

We're leaving with our car, cat, computers and clothes. I fear that this time when we come back it will be to try to find all of our friends who are staying behind and not to move back into our house.

This storm is only 1,000 feet off of the water.

I'm exhausted. Not safe to drive here out on the highways at night and it's 12:30 am.

I'm going to try to get 4 hours of sleep and go.

Well people...we are leaving and going to try to get out of this storm somewhat. I hope Cancun and our place are still here when we are able to get back.....

satellite images show it growing in strength.

lets see how it pans out.

if it keeps going west and bashes mexico, it will lose strength.

Half the people there are partying with the money to get out. How about my birth land Cuba? Deaths are not registered there.

Yeah, Pinellas will be gone if it takes a direct hit. There will be nothing left of St. Pete from what they said after they did a flood and wind damage prediction after Katrina.

Can they just direct this to New Orleans, it's probably not going to do much more damage there.

Hurricane Wilma Discussion Number 21
Nws Tpc/national Hurricane Center Miami Fl
11 Am Edt Thu Oct 20 2005

Wilma Continues On Its West-northwest Heading...295/6...which
Remains A Little To The Left Of The Short Term Guidance. For This
Reason...the Hurricane Warning Has Been Extended Southward On The
Yucatan Peninsula. Raob Data In Florida And Texas Suggest That
Ridging In The Gulf Is Weakening And It Is Still Expected That
Wilma Will Begin To Turn To The Northwest Over The Next 12 To 24
Hours. Data From The Noaa Gulfstream Jet Are Being Ingested Into
The 12z Models And We Will Soon See What Impact These Data Have On
The Track Guidance. The Basic Synoptic Scenario Is Unchanged.
Ridging In The Gulf Is Expected To Continue To Weaken Slowly Over
The Next Couple Of Days...with Wilma Accelerating Northeastward
Late In The Forecast Period As Short-wave Energy Digs Southward
Around The Back Side Of A Large Low-pressure System Over The
Northeastern United States. The Most Significant Change To The
Model Guidance Is A Generally Slower Recurvature And Acceleration.
As Far As The Florida Threat Is Concerned...the Main Focus Of The
Threat Remains From Central Florida Southward Through The
Keys...and It Is Still Too Early To Narrow That Down Any Further.

Satellite Imagery Indicates That The Inner Eyewall Continues To
Weaken...and Earlier Reconnaissance Data Show That The Hurricane's
Highest Winds Already Are Associated With The Outer Eyewall.
Although Some Additional Weakening May Occur This Afternoon...
Re-strengthening Is Possible Over The Next 24 Hours As The Eyewall
Replacement Cycle Progresses...and Wilma Could Regain Category Five
Status Before It Reaches The Yucatan. Wilma Is Now Expected To
Spend Enough Time In Or Near The Yucatan To Result In A
Significantly Weaker Storm In The Gulf When It Approaches Florida.

I gassed up my cars, got gas for my generator, plenty to smoke, 3/4 bottle grey goose, couple red bulls, big ass bottle of rum, a couple cokes and 5 gallons of water. I've learned these are the most important essentials when a storm comes. The power goes out, its hot as fuck and your extremely bored, as far as food goes I have some canned foods but not too much, it seems everytime a hurricane hits we end up going out to eat, especially since theres nothing else to do.

I like to hear that. Doesn't look like the NHC is doing much with their track, but the models seem to be varying up and down the state with some now showing it missing the peninsula entirely.

The dangerous thing about living on the west side of Florida is the Continental Shelf extends out from the shore to about 100 miles. This means shallow waters. The more shallow the water the greater the storm surge comes on shore.

Look at this graphic I found. Looks like Naples will be completely submerged if it lands near there.
