Any Skateboarders here? I have a question(Pic)
I aware that I'm 29 and just started skateboarding last year. I always wanted to and I wasnt going to let people tell me Im to old etc.
Im not into tricks or anything I just like to cruise and have fun with it. I do have a question thou the wheels that came with it are too small for me and designed for tricks. When I was with Ynotbob in San Deigo I saw longboard with wheels the size of what you would see on roller skates. They were bigger and went over bumps much easier. Then I saw some guy in Toronto with it. I was wondering what size you need and if I can pick them up at my regular skate shop? Here is a pic of my deck WHat size would I go with Skaters?

I think you would be looking for 55mm wheels. Those should be a big bigger. By the time you would be getting into ramps and shit, they would be worn down perfect for that.
Also, don't let anyone tell you that you are too old. Once I get my knee fixed, blew it out about 2 years ago on a ramp, I'm back out there. And I'm 28.

If you're really just into cruising bro, go with one of these:

I'm not sure what size wheels you would need, but my son is an avid skateboarder and his wheels are bigger than those in that pic you posted. He does all of those crazy tricks though.
I'll also say that the underside on his decks never look as good as your's does except when they're brand new lol.. he beats them up pretty good doing those tricks. In fact, somebody please explain to me the point of saving broken decks lol.. he has a stack of broken decks in his closet that you would not believe. I try to throw them out and he says "no way! I'm saving those!" ![]() anywho.. Dwreck - you're definately not too old to take up skateboarding.. my son has quite a few friends who are in their late twenties and early thirties who skate and they're really good! ![]() |

i don't really think you can put long board wheels on a small board like that they would rub when you try to turn and shit. but you can buy bigger wheels 52-55mm i think would be the biggest you want for a board like that.

long boards were designed for street surfing/cruising, your type of board was designed for tricks and jumping ;]

My first board was made by taking apart the metal skates we used to clamp on our stiff church shoes and nailing them to a board
![]() Then my dad bought me a "real" board at the hardware store. Clay wheels. Then I finally got one of those fancy new plastic ones, with urethane wheels. Left it in the yard and someone stole it. Then finally got a real board again, but it was many boards later before they had sealed bearings. It was a pain to keep replacing the loose bearings when they'd fall out ![]() Had my pic in the local paper once "wiping out" on a ramp, lol. Yeah, skateboarding will always be cool with me!

If you're into cruising, buy a long board & go to High Park. You'll be able to cruise as well as get some crazy speed on some of the hills.
Cheers

im 35 and skate all the time.
the smaller the wheel the more you will feel bumps. the material used to make the wheel also affects this. if you are riding streets with that deck you amy need some bigger softer wheels. if you are doing tricks and stuff, the ones you have their should work fine for starting out. normally when you see really good skaters, the wheels are really small and the board is shorter as well. i have a long board which i liken to a cruising a cadillac and a short board from when i feel like breaking bones and trying to look cool. |

being an ex skater chick, i'll give you some advice; after you become very comfy with just 'cruising', you'll want to do a trick here & there (to keep it interesting). being 29, i wouldnt do it. lol
you look like you're in shape and good health but 29 yr olds dont heal as quickly as 16 yr olds. ![]() ![]() now, about the wheels: go to your local pro shop, tell the person runnin the store you just want wheels that are good for NOTHING else but just actualy skateboarding. ask them what kind of wheels they have that spin VERY easily & that are big for easy balancing (last thing you want is a wheel that doesnt turn freely, and you try to go over a bump and boom..theres Dwerck on the cement lol) but you also dont wanna fly down a hill at 100 mph either. so if you live by hills or plan on skateboarding by hills, you're gonna wanna get a wheel that has somewhat of a brake/a little harder to spin kind of wheel. that outta be a good start ![]() |

This reminds me of my first Jeff Kendall deck with Indy trucks and Bullet wheels from the GoSkate shop.
Damn. Worked all summer for that board. Reissue of the Deck from Santa Cruz Keep skating man. I bought a board a couple of years ago (I'm 29 now) and this thread makes me want to break it out again.

If you do get larger wheels you may want to invest in some riser pads (maxi pads) to give you some more space between your trucks and your board so that when you lean to turn your board doesn't touch the wheels.
I used to skate ramps in College 'back in the day' Hope this helps Dwreck! Have fun! |

The size is one consideration, the hardness is another. You wanna be comfortable, without too much vibration, especially if you're just starting out. Try some other people's boards on a surface like you expect to ride on. That will tell you a lot.
