Only thing I do not like is that there are big banners that are not yours above the big pic versions.

Oh well thats not to nice either.
Using it as a selling point for their own site to make money is bad. I still do not like the big pic with other sponsors banner though.

Pretty standard AVS promotion.

As long as he is pushing your site with the content inside then I dont see the problem. AVS traffic is the best you can get.

YARGH! I agree, it's shady but a pretty good trick, as AVS traffic usually upsells pretty well. Did I mention I own an AVS Seriously though Sam, if you don't like it, it's your site, let him know.
