Got My First Tattoo (Pics)

Finally broke down got my first. tibetan Buddhist OM Symbol (as opposed to the hindu Aum Symbol people usually see and associate with Indian Buddhists). It's meaning is really not that easily translated into english words since it has many many meanings. However, it basically the eqivalent of the buddhist word for God, however in buddhism there is no "god" per se. Life is controlled by karma and destiny, since your destiny is controlled by your actions towards yourself and others...etc..etc.. the OM sound is also usually used in mantras, that's why you hear buddhists chanting aaaauuuuummmm over and over.

I will probably continue up the arm to complete oM ma Ni padme hUM the most sacred Buddhist mantra.

P.S. Juicy the "reporter" documented the whole thing on video which i'm sure will be posted for those of you who have never seen it done...

Like I said it has many meanings not easily translated without knowing the culture...and since god is internal in buddhism, you definition is exactly the same as mine. The divine power is within. I was simply trying to put it into terms a non busshist might understand. Mind aspect is too general for most...what does that mean to them? Do they realize that they are (what they call) god, and that god is them? of course not...

From this moment on, this will be on my body forever, and because of that, technically i'll never be the same again. This moment in my life has been frozen in time.

Never realized what I was missing. very cool.

From this moment on, this will be on my body forever, and because of that, technically i'll never be the same again. This moment in my life has been frozen in time.

Never realized what I was missing. very cool.
i know how you feel man, after my first one i had the same feeling - one of freedom - strange but undrstood by many that have gotten tattooed or shall i say the ritual or passage.

the first tatt i got was a huge tribal piece from leo zuluetta (the GUY who gave tribal its birth in back in the day) from the shoulder to my elbow and its an original, leo does no flash - i had to wait 8 months to get it because he was booked that far in advance (this is back in 92)

i got to be freindly with leo and his wife and he basically educated me on tatts. especially about tribal and the meaning behind it - i was going to go into detail but fuck it. most here who rip on and ask why get tribal what tribe you from ect are just assholes that dont know what the history of it and it influences on western civilization - it has nothing to do with a tribe but a mentality and belief system long forgotten by the west.

shit this is funny - i meet you your brothter, juicy tim and izzy at internext and do a little hanging out. talk a little shit about tattoos but more with your brother and a little with izz. do the sushi/party shindig with a1r3k and you guys - i think, great bunch of guys.

a short time later, mike makes the move below the elbow, juicy's gettin inked up and now you - i dont know if i had any influence but if i did im all smiles man - im waiting to see izzz to get in the chair then its confirmed and ill really shit my pants. .

He uses a similar symbol, but without the top part.
Without the "top part" it would be A (not OM)

Actually, getting an 'A' would mean much more sense, because it represents our primordial state. The sound of "A" represents pure energy from from which everything occurs.

Ray, you never answered what tradition you were following.
