BODYBUILDERS AND MUSCLEHEADS: What else besides creatine and protein powder is needed

Hulk Galleryseek, this means YOU.

Any of that other stuff like XBJZX, DJASDF, AQWER, or the ever popular ZXCVWEFGT needed for a good supplement program?

Please, no ball-shrinkers thank you.

Yup yup, 2+ grams of protein per body pound, low fat, quality complex carbs, got it.

I'm just wondering if there's "another creatine" (the holy grail) that I don't know about.

Whenever I am trying to drop weight and or put on muscle mass I have always used Met-Rx and had good results. Its not too greatly expensive (20 pack for about $35.00) and the protien combinations are designed to reduce muscle fatigue during intense workouts and speed up healing for quicker more noticeable growth. Plus its a great way to curb your appetite if your going for lean muscle mass and weight loss.

consume mass quantities of water with creatine for it to be effective, work up to a gallon a day

and a solid vitamin pack like the universal animal pack

good feed, good training

supplements are just that.. they supplement your excellent diet and training program. I found creatine to be of benefit, but only as part of a solid foundation of a regular workout plan and good eating habits - without that all your creatine/animal packs (lol)/getbigquick powders are more useless than they already are.

What are your training goals, and current workout plan/split?

Standard stuff, one body part per day, 6-day cycle, 9-12 total sets per part via 3-4 different exercises @ 4-6 reps per set.

Just wondered if there's anything else besides the normal info (good food, good training, creatine, lots of water, etc) that's hit the scene lately.

You dont even need supplements. They are WAYY overrated. Just eat well, go to the gym and work out properly. If you are going to take a supplement, just take protein to build your muscles. Creatine is just useless. I have a couple of my friends who are well build and have never touched supplements.

glutamine? Studies have only shown effects in animals so rrrriiight.. I dont know i've thrown a few grams into a post shake before, its debatable whether it really helps with muscle recovery..

One thing you may want to look into however are BCAA's (branch chain amino acids) they are quite expensive per kilo but its something i throw in my pre and post w/o shakes

If you're using more than 2000mls a week then ya, I used some Chlomyd(sp?) last time to help the jewels regain their fullness.

The best thing you can possibly eat when working out for maximum gains is raw animal protein...aka BEEF! Find the leanest, cheapest steak you can find (none of that Filet or Porterhouse bullshit). I'm talking flank steak or something cheaper if you can find it! Fat (marbelling) is what gives the steak the flavor hence why those cuts are more expensive and more popular. If you want pure animal protein with all sorts of amino acids and creatine then go with beef.

When I worked out hardcore I would eat at least one steak a day. The cheap steak sucks because it's not tender and tastey but they are a lot better for you and you will grow like a mother fucker.

That's just my 2 cents but I'm not a professional. I know that T.O. (Terrell Owens) only eats Chicken, Fish, and Veggies and that guy is more ripped than Jodie Foster's dress in The Accused!

You're fundamentally correct, but wrong on creatine to a degree. Creatine fills cells with water, the byproduct of which artificially increases the muscle's strength by a very slight degree. It's not a supplement that "grows" the muscle, like a steroid. It simply helps you lift a bit more than the muscle is actually capable of lifting.

For me, this increase allows me to rep say 220lbs on the bench four times during a creatine cycle versus 210lbs on the bench just twice, off the cycle. The increased strength leads to faster gains, though the same gains are definitely possible without it, as your friends show.

Agree with all points. Local supermarkets even have "max packs" of meat, boneless, with little marbling, in the $3.00 per pound range for families. And it's really not that bad, USDA Select.

lol @ The Accused reference.

Actually, Roids can be VERY beneficial if used correctly and in moderation (like everything in this world). Some people use minimum doses knowing that it's not going to blow them up but it gives them the edge and motivation to work out harder. The reason Roids get a bad rap is because like most other drugs, they are abused. I bet there are people that you deal with every day that has done one form of steroids or another and you don't even know it.

One more final reply:

Be sure to remember that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and not to eat ANYTHING after 8pm. If you eat before you go to sleep your body has to divert blood to your digestive system to aid in food digestion and it takes away from recovery. It also prevents you from getting a good, sound night's sleep which is also extremely crucial.

Good luck and if you ever need advice hit me up. I used to be a personal trainer for a short while at my gym in Ft. Lauderdale.

hah. i'm no hulk, by any means!

first of all, how long have you been lifting? I've been lifting for over 4 years now and I've honestly never taken any sort of supplement. not even creatine. of course protien supplements, but that's it. a lot of people have said supplements are overrated, well i don't entirely agree with that. having been an idiot for so long, i've been at a plateau for literally a couple years, mainly because i haven't bothered increasing my food intake. I think some supplements can be good for breaking past plateaus, but i don't have any personal experience with them so i can't speak on them.

i am going to try creatine soon however. at this stage, having lifted consistently for so long, i really know my body - i'll keep ya posted once i start creatine, on how well i do with it.

but yeah, depending on how long you've lifted, it's allllllways best to get a very strong base down (which simply means learning how to lift properly, learning how to eat right, and establishing a consistent gym/nutrition history) before you start messing with supplements. there's no need to even consider supplements until you start hitting a plateau. this way, like i said personally, you will know what works for you.

diet first. eat right - know what that means and what you need - spend the time planning out your meals, writing everything down and making sure you have your diet in order.

good training second. have a good plan. know you are doing everything correctly, have good form, using appropriate weights, have reasonable goals etc.

there are no supplements to help you around bad diet and bad training. i would not worry about anything until you have a good plan together, good diet and good training habits... and have pushed yourself to the max for a good 6 months or more, doing everything correctly.

above all things... besides all the vitamins, minerals, calcium, b's, efa's and bcaa's, creatine and glutamine are probably the most helpful. almost everything else is bullshit and unnecessary.

well i'm not a body builder per se, but i do use whey protein supplement daily. costco is the best deal i've found.

2 scoops with milk and ice in a blender makes a thick imitation chocolate shake. give about 50grams proteim with low fat milk.

then i go out and ride my bike.

if you have swimmer's build you will not lose your dick, and i think the ladies do prefer that.

but all webmasters should do something.

Completely not true!! Many bodybuilders wake up in the middle of the night to eat to sustain protein synthesis and building while sleeping. Your blood is not diverted from one place to another in your body. Where you a trainer at 24 hour fitness?

Yet another bullshit lie from you buddy! Stop telling these lies and misleading people.

2 sources of protein that is far better than beef is eggs and CHICKEN!!
One ounce of chicken has far more protein than 1 ounce of beef.

Only have red meat once per week. The rest of the week alternate between chicken and fish.

You are an idiot! Steriods make your testicles shrink because your body isn't naturally producing them. But once you are off of the steriods, and your natural production comes back your testicles come back. You can also take a counter agent to prevent shrinkage. For those that really care, if your balls shrink, visually your cock looks bigger.
