My dad quit smoking for almost year now. I think, he will be leaving it for good.

was a diehard smoke for about 6-7 years. Very bad chain smoker. I quite cold turkey. I never have cravings anymore and haven't since the first couple of months I stopped. I haven't smoked for about 4 or 5 years now.

I'm sure it varies per person, but for me it's like I never smoked in the first place. But then ask me about my "addiction" to Coca Cola. I've tried to quit that many times and never succeeded ;)

I was a smoker for over 15 years. It's been quite a while since I stopped cold turkey. The cravings never fully go away... they do tend to follow a pattern--the first cravings are physical in nature, the middle cravings are psychological, and the final wave of cravings are 'triggered' usually by stress or memories of smoking. This is not in any way scientific, just based on my personal experience.

Keep up the good work. You are saving your life.

December 8th is the last day you can smoke in any public building or within 25 feet of the entrance or window of a public building in Washington State. Maybe this will help some people quit.

My Grandma is 85, smokes 2 packs a day for the past 70 years, and even has a couple stiff scotch and sodas every now and again.

i hope i make it that long!

For the people that claim: "i stopped and never had a craving or urge to light on up" .. trust me: you havent enjoyed smoking like i do :-)

So give me an honest answer: does this go away ?

I quit smoking 9 months ago after smoking for about 20 years non stop.. wierd enough i managed to quick pretty damn easy.. but every day i still think at least a few seconds about a siggy :-) it really is a few seconds and than it goes away..my wife quit 4 years ago and she said that after a year or 2 smoking was 100% out of her system.

Never had a craving since I quit about 6 or 7 years ago. Stopped cold turkey after I realized I was out of breath walking up 3 flights of stairs everyday. At the time I was up to 2 packs a day... :pimp :Oh crap

:thumbsup I'm soooo glad this won, After smoking for about 20 years I quit about 5 months ago and don?t have many cravings at all any more, maybe one a week but it passes fast. Even when I did smoke I hated being around smokers so it made quitting easier.

The amount of money I save plus not stinking like an ashtray is a great feeling. I get around smokers now and can?t believe I used to smell that way. It's gross!

I quit smoking at the age of 4, right after my first sexual experience

When you get to the point that you are literally suffocating, you do what you have to do, so I quit. And to be honest, quitting was sooo easy after not being able to get any air into my lungs.

I do breath better now, but I want a ciggarette every now and then.....

Heh, this is always a good way ... My grandpa on my Mom's side died of emphysema, two of my uncles on my mom's side died of emphysema. I am 27, have been smoking for 14 years and my dumb ass still smokes.

I have quit 3 + months twice in my life - both times the trigger was drinking. If you have it in your blood - you are doomed... Life sucks, then ya die! My fiancee who both tokes and smokes puts a 'wonderful' spin on it - lol. Her answer about "Aren't you worried about Lung Cancer" is

'I would rather die at 50 full of life then die at 85 with the last 20 years of my life being full of doctor visits, x-rays, and "wondering" about what ifs'

Made me think seriously, would I rather live the life of someone old... waiting to die of something besides lung cancer. Or live my life day to day ? Still not sure what my answer is BUT I have fucked everything else in my life up so I'll make sure to post when I decide so you can all go the opposite way!!
