who here owns a dell?? i think this is false advertising

about a year ago, i bought a computer.. a cheap one at that, infact it was there cheapest one because at the time i was tight on cash.

anyways, the specs said it came with 256mb ddr 400mhz ram.
so the other day, i was like.. hmmm, go live, advancedsubmitter, photoshop & a few more apps were kind of lagging my computer a little and i couldnt efficiently burn some content to dvd for a little late night relief effort so i decided to upgrade.

i went to a computer store and purchased a gigabyte stick of ddr1 ram @ 400mhbz and put it into my p.o.s. dell.

it didn't work, now i have to wait until tuesday before i can get the right kind of ram.. even though the web-site, paper specs, etc. sayz 400mhz.. after calling dell and complaining i learnt that it's actually only supports a max of 333mhz pc-2700 ram.

so now i've wasted mad time trying to upgrade only to learn that i was lied to and that i have to wait longer before i can do everything @ the pace i'd like too

they're cheap computers. i was just a little accept trying to upgrade one of them.. i called their support and they "werent sure" about the incorrect specs and said it'll be looked into.

i like my computer, even though it's a 2400 *cheapest one you can buy, lol*... just dont like unneccesary set backs

When it comes to Dell, their servers are great. As far as their desktops and laptops go, if someone gave me the top of the line it would be in the nearest pawnshop in less then 24-hours.

I've actually had great experience with them. Just bought a second computer tonight for my lil bro, after my initial purchase of desktop and pda a few months back. Also picked up some extra memory for the desktop and pda... and I expect nothing but the best from them after my original purchase.

Depends on which one you order, mine wasn't exactly cheap and the specs do not lie. Quality wise they are above average.

I have had some issues with my Dell but their tech support was incredible and that to me is #1. They actually replaced two computers due to problems...it is a pain in the ass but they were always there for me.`

I've had one Dell, which I bought 5 years ago and on which I'm typing this. Had to replace the fan and video card, but everything else is ticking along without a problem.

AGREED... the one i'm using cost $3500.. and i held back.
however I WAS disappointed that they would take a video card that usually comes Dual-DVI and put in the same card but with one DVI and one VGA. (this wasn't mentioned anywhere I saw).. especially when the card added about $400 to the price.

I have three Dell desktops. Two are only a few years old. However, one of them is from 1996, upgraded, and still chugging away.

Dell use very cheap, B-quality hardware for their desktops and servers. It is of no better quality than many no-name products. However, before I get into a fight, that doesn't mean no-name products are always bad, I own a Dell PDA. Bought it because it was cheap. Their service is great however.

Dell used to be the sh*t Now how ever they are sh*t. They buy second rate bulk parts.
Something you get lucky but most times you don't. Why O Why do they want to sell cheep PC's? Way to go to ruin a great company.

I have a Dell desktop and laptop and love them both. The desktop had a HD problem, but Dell was quick on the fix and since then n/p at all.

My best friend has a Dell, it's died on her twice in the first year that she's had it and she bought their "12 month coverage" thingie where a tech is supposed to come out and fix it. She had to wait two weeks each time for the tech to come and "fix it".

I prefer Compaq or HP computers, personally. The one I'm on right now is Compaq, has worked great 4 me.

even though the hardware only supports 333mhz a 400mhz stick would work fine. it would just run at 333mhz.

it's not about speed causing the new ram to not work, it's the crappy dell hardware.
