Big Ass Quake In Pakistan?

News says a 7+ hit Pakistan about an hour ago. Anyone know more?

Checking the news sites but no updates than what's already posted.

They're saying they won't know the extent of the damage til several hours from now.

Don't know much about the countryside but would a 7+ do alot of damage there?

Massive tremors rocked North India at 9.25 AM on Saturday morning. Tremors measuring 6.8 on the richter scale were felt in Delhi, Srinagar, Amritsar, Patiala, Jaipur, Chandigarh and Dehradun. The quake had its epicentre in Pakistan.

Nearly 100 people in the state of shock have been brought to Srinagar's SMHS hospital for treatment. A senior police officer told rediff.com said "scores of people" have complained of heart palpitations after the tremors.

Five injured persons have been admitted to Srinagar's SMHS hospital. Many houses in Srinagar have developed cracks and people remain on the roadside, afraid to go back into their homes. Six houses were destroyed in north Kashmir's Handwara area, said police sources.

Reports from Jammu & Kashmir say that normal life has been disrupted. Telephone lines at several places in Srinagar have been disrupted.

The tremors went on for about thirty seconds and are reported to have also been felt in neighbouring Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Local television in Pakistan said the quake caused panic in Islamabad, as well as nearby Rawalpindi, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta near the Afghan border.

Great Horney Toads!

Dinna know it was that strong. News is saying 7.6 or more. 19 story building collapsed there too. Considering that most deaths from a quake are from bad construction no telling how bad it might be. Yet if the houses are good quality there may be no deaths which is good.

Best to keep an eye on what the Geo's say as it might be one of many to come.

that's pretty cruel to make fun of these people. They had dreams and hopes like anyone else. I've met hundreds of Pakistanis here in the U.S. who work their asses off to put their kids through school and are valuable citizens. Friendly folks too with great senses of humor and fair and square.

It's tragic that that many people have died in one fell swoop.

Greg sir, As you know I respect you completely. My comments were more born of sarcasm.

I too know many people of "arabian" origin that are hard workers here in our country. I will not however turn a blind eye to the many more that are not here that would do damage if given the opportunity to our great country.

I'm not sure, but I don't think the Pakistani army volunteered to help the refugees of our recent disaster in Louisiana. I'm also not sure if a single Mosque in Pakistan, Iraq, or India dedicated daily prayers to those hurting from that natural disaster but I'm guessing they didn't.

Yeah, news says 30,000+ and it's heartbreaking. People here have a misconception about Pakistanis. They're just like Americans. Some black, some white, some brown. They'll give you the shirt off their back to help a guy out too.

That quake that hit was so powerful that 400 miles away in India's capital buildings fell down. That's like a quake hitting NY City and People in Buffalo New York watchin' shit fall over.

The videos and pics are coming in and you wouldn't believe the damage to the superstructures like highways. Turned them into what looks like crushed tissue.

One of the officials there said that below standard construction levels were used so that is being investigated. I would hate to be the contractors who cut corners cause the penalty is something horrible like being eaten to death by a heard of toothless camels or some such shit.

That's almost 100,000 killed and injured in one swipe. If that shit happened in Europe or the U.S. the world's economy would collapse.

I wont be really happy with big earthquake in others countries, when the is The San Andreas fault in the west coast...

Probably the biggest fault and that can cause more damages and deads

magnitude: 7.5 equivalent to 1,000,000 tons Earthquake, ie: Landers, CA, 1992
Pakistan earthquake in here in the middle
magnitude: 8.0 equivalent to 6,270,000 tons Earthquake, ie: San Francisco, CA, 1906
magnitude: 8.5 equivalent to 31,550,000 tons Earthquake, ie: Anchorage, AK, 1964
magnitude: 9.0 equivalent to 199,999,000 tons Earthquake, ie: Chile, 1960
10.0 equivalent to 6.3 billion tons fault type like San-Andreas fault

The result of a 10 magnitude earthquake in the San-Andreas foult will be over one million times biggest than the pakistan... I hope this never happens
