3 Dead in Philly
Family just got a call today that my fathers neice, my cousin, was murdered by her ex-husband, I never met her but this is sad news..
http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/12848678.htm Three dead in Far Northeast shootings Police said a Bucks County man killed his ex-wife and a friend of hers before apparently turning his gun on himself. By Barbara Boyer, Stephan Salisbury and Ira Porter Inquirer Staff Writers A Bucks County man killed his former wife, her close friend, and apparently himself yesterday in three separate shootings that unfolded in front of Philadelphia police officers and rattled a normally quiet neighborhood in the Far Northeast, police said. The gunman was identified by police as Alexander Elkin, 45, of Holland, Bucks County. Police said he killed his ex-wife, Alla Elkin, 43, and her friend, Irina Sulimova, 35, of Northeast Philadelphia, whom Alexander Elkin accused of ruining his life. Alla Elkin lived in the couple's upscale home and had a protection order against her former husband, who neighbors said was jealous and violent. Sulimova apparently had encouraged her friend to leave him, authorities said. Yesterday's events started about 10:15 a.m., when an off-duty Philadelphia Highway Patrol officer was in the parking lot of a strip mall in the 9900 block of Bustleton Avenue. The officer saw Elkin and his ex-wife arguing inside a late-model red Mustang convertible, said Chief Inspector of Detectives Joseph Fox. Police said that Alexander Elkin reportedly fired several shots and that his ex-wife tried to flee. The off-duty officer, who was not armed, saw Alexander Elkin pull her back into the car and shoot her several times in the torso and head before driving off. The off-duty officer called 911 and followed the Mustang to the Bustleton-Somerton Shopping Center in the 10000 block of Bustleton Avenue. There, he flagged down a uniformed officer who was on his way to the funeral of a Bucks County police officer fatally shot by a suspected drunken driver a week ago. As the off-duty officer was telling his colleague what he saw, Elkin turned the corner of the parking lot, stopping in front of the Somerton Deli, which Sulimova owned, Fox said. When the Mustang pulled up, Sulimova was standing outside, chatting with a friend. Elkin leveled his gun and shot several times, police said, and Sulimova fell to the ground. He then approached the spot where she lay bleeding and, while towering over her, fired at least two more shots, police said. As he was shooting, witnesses told police, he told her that she had ruined his life. Elkin got back in the Mustang and fled. Both officers followed the Mustang, the off-duty officer in his personal pickup and the on-duty officer on a motorcycle, police said. A short distance away, at Proctor Street, the driver pulled over on his own. It was unclear whether the officer or the driver shot first. Police said they believe the man fatally shot himself in the head with a .40-caliber semiautomatic pistol. At least one casing for the pistol was at the scene, and holes riddled the back of the Mustang where the officer's bullets pierced the vehicle. Fox said an autopsy would determine whether Elkin was killed by his own gun or by police. Authorities did not release the names of the two officers. When police approached the Mustang, Elkin was slumped against the window on the driver's side and his ex-wife was beside him, slumped against the passenger's-side window. The couple were both Russian immigrants, originally from Moscow, and divorced earlier this year, neighbors in Bucks County said. A daughter is grown and no longer lives at home, they said. The Elkins were described as an attractive couple who dressed stylishly. She was a hardworking, polite woman, who lost her job as a computer programmer months ago. He was a handyman and a whiz at computers, neighbors said. But neighbors expressed concern about his drinking and the fighting. Valentine Slutsky, who lived next door, frequently spoke with both and said he had advised Alla Elkin to sell the house and get away from her ex-husband. "He was a very sick man," Slutsky said, adding that Alexander Elkin was extremely distraught over the breakup. "I told her that she was in danger." Alexander Elkin had violated the protective order in the past, forcing his wife into his car and driving around the area. For that, he spent a month in jail, Slutsky said. "He wanted both of them to be dead, but she started crying and then he started crying, so he didn't do anything," Slutsky said. One time, Slutsky said, Alexander Elkin bit his former wife in the face because he believed she had been flirting with a waiter at a restaurant. Yesterday morning, Elkin told Slutsky he was meeting his ex-wife to pick up his winter clothes. The shootings shocked employees and customers at both usually crowded shopping centers. Several witnesses said they had seen the couple arguing in the Mustang. At the Bustleton-Somerton Shopping Center, business owners said Sulimova was well-liked and worked hard. Joy Kligman, co-owner of AJ's Fashion store a few doors from the deli, said she and her business partner were there when the shooting occurred. "I ran out after we heard the shots," Kligman said. "I seen Irina dead on the sidewalk. There was blood all over." Kligman said Sulimova had been talking to a friend who ran into the fashion store in terror. "She was screaming, 'Call the police! Call the police!' " Kligman said. "She was scared and she saw our door open." Kligman said Sulimova had owned the deli for about 10 years. "She worked all the time," Kligman said. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
