Comus Thumbs vs. Smart Thumbs - which to choose?

I need to change TGP script on a number of domains, but dont know which to choose.. seems like COMUS and SMART THUMBS basically got the same functions?

Which do you prefer and why?

i am using smart thumbs, i found it much easier, and i also used the free version of comus.

why go for the expensive scripts when autogallery sql does the trick for 85$

no one uses all the features of comus or smart thumbs anyway.

i tried comus, and most other tgp scripts out there , nothing compares with AGSQL

easy to install, easy to use , and constantly upgrading with new features.

don't get me wrong , comus is a great script, made by competent people , but way too many options , way to complicated to get what you want out of it and most people end up using only 20% of the script capacities. if you don't run a porn tgp empire network you don't need it . its like buying a lamborghini to drive at 55 mph.

agp sql has a serious bug where a group of hackers can hack it and redirect traffic. It has been happening for a while and from what I know the programmers ignore the problem and dont release a fix. Prove me and the rest wrong by getting someone from the company to reply on this.

can you use your version on unlimited domains ans does it have a single admin panel for all the sites?
The version I see on comus seems to be limited to 5 or 10 domains and have very few info!

Smartthumbs all the way.. it's pretty easy to setup. it's super easy on the server and smartthumbs runs on some of the biggest sites out there. one is 900k.. some are 600k some 400k etc..

I am running 6 sites from one DB and it runs smooth as a baby's bottom..

To be honnest the new version 5 is much harder to setup than the old version as it has many more features now.

I think that Comus is pretty fucking confusing. I figured that I'd break away from my normal scripts just to see the hype, but it was a mess to deal with, so I got rid of it. I'd give Smart Thumbs a try.

I'm using a new advanced form of Thumbnail Manager which is amazing and ultra easy to use. The thing about it though is that you have to go through them for hosting at Advanced Hosters, which isn't a bad thing because the host is rock solid, plus they give you UNLIMITED thumb and traffic scripts, so it's nice

With the new version 5.. well it is BETA now.. so some parts are not as stable as they should be. but you can use one database and share it with as many domains you like.. on the same server and even on unlimited ammount of external servers. works great.. i have a cluster of 3 servers with domains running from one DB.. the new version should be finished soon.. there are about 50 sites running the new beta and most run smooth as silk..if you buy the old version 4 you can participate in the beta test of version 5.. (on your own risk)

I can use my version on unlimited domains but 1 panel for each domain, so if you have 50 domains = 50 different control panel , however you can easily transfer the thumbnails from a site to another your site.
The server version isn't avaiable now. Server version is not avaiable since 1st november 2004 (I've bought mine on september 2004).

If youre ever going to run larger TGPs with your database across domains you might want to look at this - http://www.apscripts.com/
After many attempts with other scripts mentioned here, its the only one that has held up with a lot of pages and tons of traffic - including rebuilds that take the rest of these scripts to their knees.
I dont work for them - but after seeing some of the largest traffic TGPs run it with no problems I was convinced

added - and I think the server lic is only around $800 or so

Perhaps the most controversial change in PHP is when the default value for the PHP directive register_globals went from ON to OFF in PHP 4.2.0. Reliance on this directive was quite common and many people didn't even know it existed and assumed it's just how PHP works. The thing is, well-written code doesn't need register_globals on in the first place, so it isn't generally worth the trouble of turning it on.

That coupled with the fact that the default is now "off" (which means that on any recent php installation, you'll actually need to make changes that lower security for this) makes me doubt the competence of any programmer requiring it to be "on".
