Best thing to do is eliminate your rescue fantasies -- people like AMP need to crash and burn on their own -- it's not for us to save them.

If the person is question is someone more significant than AMP (qualifying most everyone on the planet) to you, an intervention can be quite effective

The person would have to recognize that there's a problem first... then have a desire to correct the problem.

If the person is convinced that he/she is just fine, whether they really are or not, they'll take your intervention as an insult and an attack.

Watch intervention on A&E on Sunday nights. PRetty funny but sad at the same time shit on there. Ive worked in the addiction field and its no fucking fun.. As Stuart said there has to be at the very least a little desire in the person to sober up or all the time and effort you put in is wasted . Thinking you can rescue someone who dont wanna be rescued is futile. If the desire is there convince them to go to a 30 day lockdown detox unit. Its a make or break thing in there.

                    exactly.
as long as they have not gotten to a point where they really REALIZED that there IS a problem, that HAS to be corrected, they wont. there is not too much of what you can do as an outstanding person.
