If you have a big screen..and have a static BG, like leaving the game on without playing it, it'll burn into your screen.

Yes they can..turn down your brightness and contrast or else you can have Mario permanently burned into the screen

Depending what kind of TV you got ... LCDs and plasma can burn easily
