:mad People that think your job is easy and wanna do it to

How many of you have friends and family members that think that it must be a great easy life to sit on the computer all day, making some nice money.

Fuck, I have them bugging me all the time. My brother wants to get involved, then I have a couple of good friends that want me to help them get going.

Then there's my brother and sister in laws that have a tough enough time checking their fucking email, let alone having the knowledge to build and run a page. As a matter of fact, tonight they wanted me and the wifey to go over for dinner and discussions on how to get them going. It's funny though because they're already figuring on making $1000 per month after the first couple of months, then quiting their jobs to do it full time, ha ha ha. They make me laugh sometimes. I don't have the heart to tell them that they're high, so I'll just keep avoiding them for now, he he he.

Hmmm, well I've worked as a dishwasher, a painter, a pizza delivery guy, a copy boy, a real estate agent and a computer programmer, and porn is by far the easiest money I've ever made, and the most fun.

Clay, I'll have to agree, this is one hell of a fun job, I love it myself and for me, now that I've been doing this for many years, it's not that hard of a job, it's second nature, BUT the thing is that I'm on here 7 days a week, working a few hours a day and when I'm not on here working on this, I'm thinking about it, ha ha ha. It can also be stressful at times when things don't go my way, he he he.

The people that I have bugging me to set them up are people that are pretty much computer illiterate, they can barely check their emails and they think that they can be full time webmasters. What's their chance of survival on here ???

Yeah I used to get this fucking flack from all my friends... not too many of my friends take this job seriously... especially some girlfriends... they always expect favors from me.

I had one girlfriend conspire with another of her girlfriends -- they tried to con me into driving this girl (that I didn't even know) 4 hours to see her mom -- they made up some story saying her dad was incapable of nursing her mom who was on her deathbed -- and that she had special blood training that her mom needed -- what the fuck was I supposed to do? let me mom die? Jesus -- the whole story seemed bogus -- so I started asking questions about her family and her dad -- like why would your family abandon your mom if she was about to die -- she said her family was on vacation!?!! WTF!? -- then the girl just started crying and ran away like a baby -- I almost lost several friends because of this...

other friends make airport reservations in other cities just to save some money -- then they expect me to drive them several hours across the state...

shit you just got to say "no" sometimes...

Tell as few people as possible what you do, and if you make good money at it, tell even fewer. It's like winning the lottery...every one that knows wants a hand out.

I'm sick of people asking me "Got any vacancies"

This is hard work look at the pics on our set 0688. I had to do that all afternoon. Then when it was finished she wanted to do it some more.

Woman never figured them

I'm with Clay, I recently had a run of bad luck and had to pick up a day job, Goddamn to hell are we a lucky bunch. I'm so fucking spoiled I can barely do a 5 hour shift at stiff's job.

On the other hand, Slick's got a good point too, most of what I do I don't really consider work because it's my hobby too. But I work many a 10 hour day fixing something or starting a new project.

Right now I'm working as much as I can so's I can get back to the heaven that was my life before the dayjob.

10 hours a day, that's bloody part time, I start at 8.00 and am on this board at midnight.

But to be honest none of this seems like real work.

I am so extremely annoyed.

The only person I decided to tell was my boyfriend. I asked him to keep it to himself. So he goes and tells EVERYONE. His family, our friends. Now whenever we go out with friends I feel really uncomfortable. They are always asking about it.

If I hadn't been with my boyfriend for a gazillion years then I reckon I would've dumped him for that.

Reminds me of when I was doing the Nashville/road musician thing..
So many people thought it must have been "the life", but all they saw were the 35 minutes that we did the shows.. all of the lights, glitz and glamour.. They had no idea what went on the other 23 1/2 hours of little sleep, motel living, eat where ya can.. yada yada..

a friend of mine's parents started submitting galleries because they heard it brought a lot of money. They also make their sons do it. i find it so strange-i cannot imagine myself involving my future kids in the porn business... maybe it depends on the person...
Hey you, parents!!! if you teach your kids how to make and submit galleries, please do not make them cheaters!!! teach them how to be good!!!

Yep, that's a big annoyance at times. People think you can drop everything anytime for them, yet one of the big perks for me is that I CAN take a day (or month) off whenever I want to. Thing is, I can take time off for ME anytime, heh heh. It sucks when people assume that includes them too.

It's a catch-22. Your family obviously will want to know what you're doing and how you're earning your living, at least with my family. So they all know (sort of) what I'm doing. The pre-conceived ideas about running an online business simply amaze me sometimes. Little by little they are starting to ask more questions, and I can see where this is going. They want in. 3 years ago some of them were snickering, but now they aren't.

I've got my nephew phoning me now (he's 3 years younger than me), he's finally clued in that there is money in this. I wish him well, really I do, but I set up an advert page a long time ago that says if anyone wants to learn from ground zero how to "get going" in this biz they must pay me $500 bucks for my time. I can show them all the shortcuts I've found on my own, and teaching someone to use an html editor (like composer or dreamweaver) doesn't take all that long. I've shown a few people how to set up a basic free site in less than a week (3 hours a day for about 4-5 days), and after that I charge them an ongoing fee for any extra support they need. Sorry, time is money, chit-chat is not money. Problem is, most people that think this is *easy* are also those that are too cheap and short-sighted to see the worth of paying out $500 to gain the skills to earn that weekly (or daily). Duh.

The other option is for them to just PAY you a few thousand bucks to build them a web page. In this scenario, since after the page is made, since they still don't know jack, you charge them an ongoing fee for webmastering and maintenance. Sign them up for all the usual sponsors, they get the checks, and you can keep tabs on their stats too, heh heh. This I've done as well, just not that often.

I too got tired of hearing all the usual shit, like from a sister who once said "ya, but we WORK for a living. You just sit at home" .... The same sister to whom I once showed one of my i-bill cheques to and then she whined about how everyone in the family makes more money than her, hee hee. She's been working for Centra Gas for about 25 years now. I love it.

Slick, tell em you'll train them for a fair price, otherwise they're on their own. I mean, YOU didn't have any meeting with anyone to discuss "how to get started" when YOU got started, right? Neither did I. We just got busy and learned on our own, the long way for sure, but it was fun just the same, and worth it.

I had several friends that wanted to get into the biz. One of them knew how to make web sites so I actually gave him some info the others thought it was easy so I just told them.

Get an html editor, an FTP client, a graphics program, a thumbnail maker, some legal content with a license to use it, a host, a domain name and a pic viewer. Most of them then would say things like: " what's an ftp client?" and I'd say : " if you don't know you aren't ready to be in this biz. once you have all of the above and know how to use it, I'll help you."

so far to date not one of them has they actually say things like " well, it's hard to work 8 hours a day and then come home and spend another 3-4 working on this stuff I don't have any time to play around."

I tell them I worked a regular job then did this stuff 8 hours a night afterwards for 9 months before I really saw any money. tht usually detours them from trying.

I have the same problem, my girlfriend's dad found out I was doing adult sites, what's the first thing he asks? "Can you teach me how to do it?"

I'm also constantly getting bitched at by my girlfriend because I "don't do any real work, I just sit at home on the computer."

I guess being a webmaster has its advantages and disadvantages just like everything else in life :/

Interesting thread

I probably would not tell anyone

I once had one person ask me... if I made much money in this?

I told him no, not much

Maybe what you should do is make an utra crappy site on geocities or something with cheating sponsors links, ultra high over-priced crapola content and a bunch of dead links

than say... there, that's my money making site

better yet tell them that you are going to have it hosted on some ultra expensive pay host, that ought to scare them away

Yeah I get it from my friends as well.... The only person who truly understands what I do and how much time I invest in my online ventures is my girlfriend. She is the one who sits on the couch watching a movie while I crunch code for the evening. She is also the one who calls me at 2:00pm and bitches at me because I was up to 7:00am working on a site. Hehe

My parent's don't understand how I make money at the net and think that it if I post a couple of "nudie pics" up on the web I will simply make money! Hehe how far from the truth....

Alot of my buddies are interested and getting into gallery making but don't seem to understand why they don't get listed when they post sponsor content! LOL! And also that you have to get your galleries out to everyone and follow all of their individual rules....They don't understand that it costs money to make money and that if you don't work hard and put some real effort into it you won't make any money...

The most important thing I have learned from my online ventures is that connections and relationships are everything... You can't "teach" that to someone else. They have to make those contacts themselves and then go forth from there...

I think in this business you have to be 10% creative and 90% marketing. If you aren't getting out there and meeting people and communicating you will be dead in the water pretty quick! God damn my ICQ list a frickin mile long! LOL!

Anyways that is my

DH

My GF says that too..
I just sit around the computer for 10 hours per day and look at 'other' girls. I don't pay enough attention to her (which is true, but life's a bitch and so is she). I really think I will move to a larger planet whenever that's possible so I get longer days, like 48 hours might be enough.

Its not easy to make it in this buisness. If you live with mommy and daddy and want to make a couple bucks to buy your pimple cream, it can be done. If you want to make a living at it you need to to have internet saavy, friends in the buis, lots of experience in adult internet and some skills. Please dont tell me you can whip up a couple sites and start making money in short order. Thats not true. You simply need to know your shit. Put as much money as you want into this buisness and you will go nowhere unless you know what your doing. It takes a lot of time and patience to make money "long term" in this buisness.

Whatever, I've been drinking so I forget what my point was

Fletch XXX, I should have taken your advice and I wouldn't be bothered like I am. Then with my brother and sister in law's case, they have a pile of pics and movies that they saved from other sites, thinking that they're just gonna be ok to use. I told them that they CAN'T use that stuff that it's copyrighted and they could get into BIG trouble doing it, that it's just not right.

Well, their argument is that there's no copyright notice on the pics, ha ha ha. Talk about fucking stupid people there. They want me to show them how to do things, but they don't wanna listen to everything that I have to tell them

Now I'm supposed to go over there again tonight to show them how to do things. I'm trying to think of the best excuse to get outta going over there again, he he he.

LOL that's ok, I have my EX husband wanting me to teach him the biz. Uhhh...yeah, sure.

My friends think this is an easy job.
They think you can just put up a site and sit back smoke some weed and cash the cheques. LOL
I don't have the heart to tell them they are wrong.

So I tell them for a $1000 and 10% of their first years profit I will get them started. So far no takers, bunch of chickens.
They just don't want to part with that $1000 I quess.

The Girlfriend hated it and would not let me do it, so I married her and now she can't bitch. HA HA

My dad keeps asking me how much money I make
and how much money I would need to make more.
I think he wants to invest in porn but is chicken to mention it.

My wife calls it "playing on the computer."

Few of my friends consider this work. Most say things like "I wish I could just stay at home and look at the computer." But then these are the people that don't consider an art degree a real degree (even though the goddamn state of California requires two to three times the amount of classroom hours compared to real "academic" classes, but I digress).

Think about it for one minute.
If all these guys did not want to do our jobs, we would not have a job.
Just tell them the money is fair but the three BJs a day make up for not paying the mortgage.

REMEMBER WE SELL FANTASY

The moment these guys know the truth, we'll all be driiving buses/taxis or something even more boring.

I'm pretty sure most people who know that i work for an adult internet company, think that I just sit around and think of erotic descriptions (since i don't really explain to them what goes on here)...

Then they of course say, "You should give me a shot at that, I'll come up with stuff you never even dreamed of"

The thing is that this is a JOB. Every kind of job involves some sort of stresses and a degree of actually doing something.

Hell, even in sex if you look at those kind of jobs, blow job, hand job, rim job, all of those jobs involve work by the one doing them, he he he.

Slick, I am glad you added this, I though we were the only ones that heard that from everyone, "Get me set up with a website, build the whole thing, run it, and give me my checks, we get alot of that, and hell like you said half of them dont even know how to check thier email. And it is so easy that they shouldnt have to pay anyone for help too.

I'm glad to find out that I am not the only one that this has happened to. Almost everything mentioned has happened to me.

Although, my case was a little different - I found out how easy this was, and *purposely* told a few friends the basics of it(those that were into computers). How nice am I?! I realized it was a bad idea once more people found out, and people refused to keep their mouth shut. Everyone was bugging the shit outta me for information I took months to generate. They think because I have something stored in a file on the computer, I can just send it to them - like my email contact list, for example. Give me a break. Then, they don't even stayed signed up under me in programs that I told them were the best to use. Very, very few of them actually let me sign up to new programs first, and then sign up under me. The rest of them suck ass, and you begin to realize who your true friends are. That was all I asked for my help. I guess friends and business don't mix. People just don't understand how businesses work. People get weird when it's about money. They expect favours like crazy (some of the shit posted here is unbelieveable). Information isn't free people. How do you think we're making money to begin with? It wouldn't be so fucking bad if people weren't so greedy and jealous and expect everything, and give nothing in return. It's too hard to ask to sign up under my sponsor programs, now, is it? It doesn't even make 'em lose any money otherwise.

Ha ha ha, talk about fucking irony here. My brother just called me up a short while ago, wanting me to take a ride with him, down to Iron Mountain, so he could apply for a couple of jobs, one with Fed Ex and one for Dunahm Express, which is a local delivery company.

Anyways, he wanted me to go down there, so he has company because it's a 2 hour drive to get there. When I told him that I couldn't because I have things to take care of on here, he thought that I was joking or something, with like a "yeah right" kinda attitude.

I don't have the time to waste sitting in a car for 2 hours, wait for him to do his interviews or whatever at a couple of places, which I'm sure would take another hour or two, then sit in a car for another 2 hours on the way back, when I have lots of work to do here.

Very interesting thread. I've had my brother as well as about 3 friends express interest in doing what I do. They seem to think it's very easy, but when it comes down to it, they find out it's a lot of work at first and have pretty much all given up. Just today a friend from high school contacted me after finding out what I do and now wants some tips to get started, so I told him to read this thread

When my dad found out about my enterprise, he said one of his friends who is a millionaire would be interested to know what I do since he sold his business and now does nothing for cash. Although I never contacted the guy, he would probably have the most ambition to get started in the biz.
