The Forgotten War

Canada has soldiers in Afghanistan.

We supported the invasion and the efforts to bring Osama Bin Laden to justice. We still do, and we still believe that must be the primary objective in any war on terrorism.

CNN had a report today talking about Afghanistan as the "Forgotten War"

Seems the only war Americans think about is the Iraq invasion. According to the story, at least.

They told of soldiers returning and not being taken seriously because they were not where the war was. Kinda sucks to be them.

There have been more American casualties in Afghanistan this year than in any previous year.

Americans only think about whatever the media shoves down their throat, and since there is very little to no news coverage of happenings in Afghanistan, unless someone dies, nobody pays attention.

I supported the war in Afghanistan and still do. That was the true war on terror, too bad we have an admin that only thinks about money.

No it's not, they just did a better job of selling it to us and we were less skeptical. It isn't about Bin Laden or terrorism any more than the Iraq war is. It's about the same thing Iraq is about, the neo-cons fantasy of American/Israeli hegemony and control over resources. If you think anybody in the Bush administration gives a fuck about terrorists you're kidding yourself. Terrorists do nothing but help them. Dick Cheney is just waiting for the next terrorist attack so he can attack Iran while Americans are in another media fed fear frenzy, even if they Iran is not involved. He has said that recently in no uncertain terms.

Taking out Bin Laden would be seen as a very high profile victory in the war against the global jihad.

However, it would do nothing to lessen the terrorism. The driving force behind the global jihad can be found between the covers of the Koran and Hadiths. We are at war with a 7th century supremacist ideology and have been for 1400 years. Only now are *some* people beginning to wake up and smell the coffee.

Unfortunately, the US administration (especially the State Department) do not seem able to grasp the facts of the matter. Almost all of the rest of the developed world is in the same boat too, blinded by 60 years of post-war socialism (and hence gross stupidity), multi-culturalism (cannot work unless under a totalitarian regime), dhimmitude (the practice of appeasing and bowing down to one's Muslim masters) and the idea that you can feed the crocodile (Islam) in the hope that it will eat you last. I'd say, the only countries which seem to know what they are up against are Israel, Russia and Australia (to a small but increasing degree).

In Europe, we are in deep shit. We have an increasing Muslim fifth column which simply will not accept our culture or respect our laws and, due to the promise Allah made to them that they shall one day rule the entire world, is devoted to ensuring that every one of us is converted/ raped/ killed/ enslaved/ forced to live with only dhimmi status.

Things are not going well. Especially not for the pornographers. We will be the first up against the wall once the black banners are raised from our town halls.

Unfortunately you have a good point.

Every threat of terrorism helps industries that benefit from selling to the military. People in government have interests in these same industries.

The single biggest threat to them losing money would be to win the 'war on terror' and not sell as much to the military.

Oppps, wrong post.
Well, what's really so frustrating right now is knowing the fact that Bin Ladin is still alive and again ready to stage or if I heard it right, already staged attacks.
Just think of the recent Bali bombing.

Unfortunately true!

The other truth may be that there is no way anyone can "win the war on terror", hence it becomes a permanent cash register and one that costs more lives on both "sides".

Ya can't "win" against people who are ready to die and eg. blow themselves up. Convincing them there is more to live for may be more constructive.

Hate to tell you, but EVERY nation only focuses on what the media shoves down your throat, not just America.

It doesn't matter who has the biggest guns in this world, the media decides where they are pointed.
