Anyone have an all electric house?
Anyon have an all electric house? No gas etc for your stove or heating. I'm looking at options for the new house that we plan on building come spring. Thinking about the high prices of gas etc if it would be better to go all electric.
Anyone have any input? |

Honestly depending on the size of the home you will be building it may be cheaper to go with electric heat at this point. Gas/Oil prices won't be drastically declining anytime soon. Atleast with a new house it should have good insulation and be efficient.
I looked in for this winter at $2.34/gal for heating oil and it's already around 2.80/gal here so that's pretty good. At $2.34 it will be around $350.00 a month to heat. |

the total sq ft for heating area will be right around 3000 sq ft. Need to do some more research and talk to a few local people about it. I haven't had to pay gas where I live now so I'm not sure what the going rate is.

I was also thinking of having a house like that someday. Imagine the amount of money you will be saving without having to use gas.

We have a 1700 Sq Ft House here in the Hills and electric is the only way to go especially with all the high prices for propane and oil heat... Our bill at the coldest part of the season only runs about $250.00 a month. It probably would not be that bad if we actually conserved once in a while but we are wasteful....
Go with Electric... Cleaner and cheaper by far |

we had one or two when I was a kid, but as I started renting my own places I soon came to realize that is costs a lot more to run electric than gas . . . especially when doing things like heating water heaters

Must be different in different states. My gas is half the cost (maybe 1/3) of my electric bill. |

So yes Electric here is the way to go. Of course I hope that when a person buys a house they check around the area to find out what is best Gas or Electric. Seems like your mileage will vary. |

Check it out closely. Electric water heaters are hell. The cost is way higher then a gas one here to run it.

If its well insulated and a average size house..its much cheaper to run all electric. I am thinking of putting radient heating in my next house.. expensive to put in, but saves you money in the long run on cheaper electricity bills.

I'm going electric in my next home, but for only one reason.... so I can run solar panels, and 2 windmills. We get plenty of both sun and wind here in Palm Springs, and I'm gonna use it. No more rolling blackouts BS for me.

Years back the city broke my gas line with a pick while looking for a water line then told me I'd have to hire someone to fix it before they would turn the gas back on
My electric bill rarely goes over $130, it's sometimes less than $100 |

In FL almost all houses are all electric.. The only other option you have here is gas, for say your stove, water heater and so on.

I don't know what people are talking about.
My all electric house that is 40 years old costs me half to run than my old house with gas cost to run. Even in the middle of the summer with the A/C cranked down and taking two showers a day and regular living my all electric house is pretty cheap. |

We have alll electric but, since we live in the desert we don't really have to heat it. Our bills run from $200 to $500 a month to keep 2400 sq ft cool though.

I'm amazed at how much some spend for utilities.
My highest utility is Cable. Second electric. Third cell phone. Fourth Internet Access. |

I have all electric. I'm to paranoid of gas.
Just make sure you get an A/C with a HeatPump instead of the Heat Strips or it will cost a fortune to heat your house with electric. My bill ranges from 70 - 250 dollars depending on the weather and the time of the year. Gas does have advantages, still cheaper than electric per btu, also when the power goes out you can still cook have heat and hot water. |
