Veterans Day 10-03-2005 09:39 PM

In this day there is absolutely no cost differentiation between a small ford and small chevy. Using a small block chevy will drive any serious potential buyers away.

Engine swaps that go against the norm turn me on. Seriously, they give me raging wood. I mean, not many people have the Shelby kit car, so even having one makes you unique, an unheard of engine swap just adds to the uniqueness of the package :)

Edit: That, and the two Fords I've owned have had to many problems, so don't take my advice as anything but extremely biased :)

Well see Headless.

I seen these car's for quite a while, gone and seen em at a number of shows.
Alot of guys opt for the Mustang, since the Mustang is the donor car for the kit.
Here:

"FFR Mk3 Roadster, Street

This car belongs to FFR engineer Dave Riha. The car was tested with a 348 hp (dyno?d 298 at rear wheels) 302 cu in V-8 donor Mustang motor that was hot-rodded with alum heads, cam, intake, etc. The car runs a 3-link rear suspension with 3.55 rear gears and stock Mustang brakes. Dave built his own car and spent $32,109 on all parts, paint etc. The car was tested on street tires (B.F. Goodrich G-Force T/A?s) by Car & Driver magazine in July 2004 issue."

I am aiming for the 30K mark here, I go and pop a ford in it, it pops the price up as well Considerably, this is not gonna be a track car. So the aim is probably gonna be a 350 unless I get a surprise.

You need to do alot more research, small ford, small chevy = no difference in price

yes it does sound cool... but there is too much agaisnt it.. IE: point #1 above... Secondly.. its going to be more of a pain putting the motor in there then it would a ford....

I know all about cool and unique engine swaps and shitz... I got a 71 stang with a 460 bb in her... Even though ford put 429s in the 71 stangs (which is the same block as the 460) it still didnt fit right and I had to make all kind dof mods including having custom tranny/motor mounts made... Took 6 months just for those puppys...

Ummm the price difference between your estimate and the amount this guy put into is a difference of a g or two...

Have you EVER built a car before?

LOL

WHo said I was building it?
I am gonna help on some of it but I am not building the fucken thing LOL!

It could not be anyworse then the fucken 68 Triumph I drove in High School to maintain. That car was a bitch.

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 10-03-2005 09:52 PM

After the Triumph I went to an 86 Corvette.
That was fun as well.

After the COrvette I got a 2001 Firebird.

After that I gave up on cars, if I couldnt have a muscle car I was not going to drive.
So me and the wife have one car right now. Honda Del Sol.
It's tight but not right for me.

Cobra. Is just right.

Even better that you're not building it...!!!!

Cause it proves my point even more... You best be planning for a few gs swing in price either way... My custom headers alone cost me $600 for my stang... And I was not planning on that... You see if you put a chevy in there shit is going to come up like that... Shit always comes up like that...

You are just making it more difficult by putting a chevy in her... More of a pain to sell, build, etc etc etc

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 10-03-2005 09:56 PM

Well alot of the guys that build these seem to be very happy with the Mustang Blocks.

Abeit they Bore em out which is a good thing, which I will probably do as well.

Ok from what I am reading you are going in very blindly. Hooker is making their ceramic headers and they have no provisions for small chevy header, that equals custom and 700-1000 on top of your current budget thoughts about the small chevy. How much provision does factoryfive give for distributor clearance against the firewall as chevy distributors are in the rear? What manual trans are you planning to run with the small chevy, an old ass muncie 4 speed? Ya better get out the budget calculator again. There a ton of other things to think about aswell :)

dropped9 10-03-2005 10:06 PM

Do you mean 351? Cause it sounds like your talking about a 351 ford... but are calling it a 350 chevy....

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 10-03-2005 10:09 PM

Shit you guys...
I am not even building it and ya got all the questions LOL...

Please.

I will show ya pics when its done, and going to the warehouse in a couple weeks to photo the parts and shit:)

Then ya can pick it apart.

AmateurFlix 10-03-2005 10:19 PM

they're giving you some good advice, not just busting your balls :2 cents:

lazycash 10-03-2005 10:25 PM

Hmmm, this is going to set you back a little from your goal, remember a you said, if you can amass 40k, you'll be deadly in this biz.

The kit only cost like 12K then depending on how ya piece it together underneath maybe another 10K-15. I am going with the Mustang underneath, so it will still kick some ass.

I been debating getting a car for a long while, I have a pretty pimp Handa Del Sol right now, it is pretty tricked out, but a Cobra MK III is hardcore. It will beat most mustangs at the line since it will have a light Chasi.

I will roll with it once in a while in LA but not often.

This one I will hardly ever drive, its gonna be for shows and I will probably only keep it for a year. Use it for photos, media and some other production in Adult and Mainstream stuff then turn around and sell it for 50-60k maybe more.

So in the long run the whole thing is an investment.

Beautiful car! But you don't have much experience street racing huh? lol, I know plenty of teenage kids with Evo's and STI's that would destroy that no matter how light it is... but hey they're driving some damn Mitsubishi's and Subaru's so...

Also, definitely a kit car guys, a real cobra would be a fucking ASSLOAD of money if even possible to get your hands on?

ExLust 02-01-2009 09:50 PM

That's a cool ride.

YellowDude 02-01-2009 09:54 PM

Not my type of car but congrats

Nice that you have so much free time that you have to bump a three year old thread. :321GFY:321GFY

WOw, well For those that are curious the car build has slowed down.
Uhh Been short on cash lately, but the 350 is built and in and runs, currently working on the electrical as of late.
