Damn Rich Kids

So we live in Tucson, UofA is a huge campus and we go up to University all the time for food, bars, etc. It drives me frickin' nuts to see kids drive around in BMW's, Mercedes or Range Rovers knowing mommy and daddy paid for it.

Did your parents ever buy you a expensive car or would you ever buy your kids one?

It is called mind boggling debt. Most Americans have it.

I think some kids just have rich parents. You see these girls with Louis Vuitton purses, Tiffany jewelry with their sorority gear on driving beautiful cars. I can't imagine paying for all that on credit for my kids. Just doesn't make sense.

There was one kid the other night who looked like a thug and a retard nonetheless driving a very nice BMW with one killer sound system in it. He was sitting outside eating his frozen yogurt with his trunk open and the system blarring. I just shook my head.

It honestly could just be jealousy. I worked since I was 16 and finally owned a car when I was 20, but I paid for it.

They just seem to have no concept of money or work.

Yeah, but don't forget it means a lot more for us.

If your dad buys you a BMW on your 20th, sure, you'll be happy. But if you work hard to make the cash to buy it, you'll respect it a lot more.

Rich kids got the nice stuff, but don't respect/enjoy it as much as we would.

Think about it. It's just nice for showing off, which makes them happy.

Its really quite the dilemma for the parents. As a parent, you always want to give your children a better life than the one you had. However, you also need to teach your children the value of a dollar and how to earn their own money. Most parents usually shy away from the latter.

I was thinking about this the other day. I really didn't have much "stuff" when I was younger. In high school I started to accumulate "stuff", but I bought all of it myself with money I earned. Computer, stereos, music, concerts, etc. My brothers on the other hand have lived a totally different childhood. They have been given their "stuff". Computers, guitars, snowboards, clothes, etc. Now, they have part-time jobs (they're in school) but they blow every cent on small stupid things and get my parents to buy the "big" stuff. Key example, my brother is a freshman in college and still doesn't have his own car.

I hope they snap out of it someday and realize the real value of money.

Don't be jealous , pity them...

They usually fit into a number of categories.

Everything was/is handed to them on a plate and it always will be , so they have nothing to worry about. They likely never thing about you or how hard you may have worked to get what you own. They would likely find it amusing that you think about them.

Everything is handed to them because their parents are in major debt, it will catch up to them and they will be left with no skills and no money ( you can laugh at these people )

They make more money than you do , but look like shmucks..

Either way your wasting your time worrying about it.. better to put that energy into making more money , since it seems to please you

It is a dilema because now that we have kids I think of the wonderful stuff I can get them, but it never extends that far. I don't think kids should drive until 18 years of age, but that's besides the point. If I were gonna get my kids a car you better believe it'd be something like a Corolla or something gas efficient and economical.

When I grew up I got nice stuff, but on Christmas and it accumulated over the years. One year it was a TV, next year a CD player, next year a VCR, etc. Never randomly did my parents come home with a new sound system for me. : )

Can we really blame the kids who drive these cars or buy expensive items? After all their parents are most likely paying for all of it. But then again, maybe they have a different life style other than what me have. Should we be jelous of them and call them spoiled? After all its their money and they can do what they like with it. At age 25 I bought my first porsche 911 turbo (125K) with my credit and my money. But i bet people who did not know me thought I was a spoiled kid. Little did they know that I was busting my ass and making good money to enjoy the finer things in life.

My advice is if you make it, you deserve to buy yourself nice things. It's your choice. Enjoy the money and who give a fuck what other people say about you. Live your life!

Point very well taken, I think I think about it more cause I watch those stupid MTV shows like Laguna Beach and My Sweet 16. (Did I just admit that?!?)

But someone paying $250k for a frickin' bday party where the kids just yell at their parents cause it's not enough. Oh jeez, I'd lay the smackdown on that ... You watch shows like that, whether it be exaggerated or not, if my kid ever talked to me like that or acted like such a rich snob, I think I'd kill them. The one girl cried cause she didn't get her car on her bday, the other one flipped out cause she thought she was getting a used car. Oh the horror.

Ugh, I had to do that for two years during college. Never again ... it sucked. I really want to write a book about my bus experience. Tales From the Bus Stop it would be called. I was pushed out of a bus, ask to be sang to, hit on numerous times (and in college I gained a lot of weight ... so these people were on crack to hit on me), saw fights, heard the most obscure stories. I'd just sit there and try to study.

The worst may have been that I live in Tucson and I took summer classes. Waiting for the bus in 100+ degree heat sucks. Just sucks.

Most rich kids loose out on a realationship with their parents ... so the parents try to over compensate with expensive "things" ... most rich are not as happy as they appear

Cheap fuckers. Teaching me a lesson ya right, while they go off on their yachts and blow their money left and right. My dad said I made the money why would I give it you.

And then my mom hits me up for money for every couple months.

Money sucks I work hard to make sure i never have to worry about it. It definably drives me in business.

What I learned in Speech class in college was.. For as many times you can prove something correct it only takes 1 theory that makes it false to disprove that theory.

I had to pay for part of my college through all four years and I knew this entering into college. But after my first year I failed out with a whopping .714 GPA. I didn't party, I just didn't feel the need to go to class. I dunno, I wasn't mature enough to handle a university I guess.

So after that, my parents wasted $10k on the first year and said no more until I could prove to them I wanted to be in college. So for a year I was on my own and I got a 3.0 that year, so my parents helped finish paying the rest of college. Made it a lot easier to get money from them when community college was less than $500 for an entire semester and I got back into the university as an in-state resident and paid $8k less than my freshman year. : )

you'll see that in every major city, every college town. my parents helped my buy a car for 1000 bucks when i was 17. i had to pay back the half they paid. they have helped me out here and there througout the years when times were hard and i paid them back everything and bought them a car once too. i hate spoiled kids.

The richest girl at my school (this was in high school) was driving a brand new porsche with all leather interior, great sound system, and the most expensive brand name clothes.

Now it's funny cuz her parents went bankrupt and now she drives an old beater and wears Wal Mart. They had to sell their huge house. She also got fat. She even has a job now, at Denny's waiting tables.

I know it's not really that funny because her life got shitty. But it is a LITTLE funny to see spoiled miss rich bitch actually have to work for a living now. Her rich hoity toity mother ended up having to get a job too. It's just not something you would have ever guessed would happen to one of the richest families around.

Nope, I swear to God. It does sound like a movie, but it's true. The poor girl's name is Stacey (I'll leave her last name off of here :-). She was the most hated girl at my school. Not just because she was rich, but because she was very very mean.

Her Dad really did marry a woman half his age. It was a woman that he met on the internet, to top it all off. They even had a baby together.

It's definitely made for TV movie shit :-)

you never really surely know whats going to come of the lessons that intend for a growing kid. You might be holding out on them to teach them the value of the dollar and motivate them to be hard workers while they're falling in with the wrong crowd and getting accustomed to living "ghetto". If you're not careful, they might just say fuck it and go Birkenstock on you. Buy'em a fucking car or not, your best bet is to respect yourself and them and try to provide them with as peaceful, comforting and loving home for them to come in from 'the world" to, (may or may not include 2 maids, an indoor pool, exotic pets and a ferrari) so that they might have the presense of mind to be able read between the lines for themselves and realize that, happy does not necessarily the fabo car make thee...but, they are pretty fucking cool, chicks do dig them, they do have their place in the world, they're not for everyone, and minimalists, malcontents and the less fortunate/capable, will always scorn and scoff at thee for having one. That is all.

Did your parents ever buy you a expensive car or would you ever buy your kids one?
got a 37k car for college graduation. I never had a car in high school though and the promise always was...finish up the college thing and you get a car. I could have done very well for myself without my degree in my main job, but i did it for the parents and the car.

I worked for everything i have, and do you know how annoying it is when I'am at an intersection the shit people say to me?

1) What time's dads car gotta be home tonight?
2) That was nice of your parents
3) Hey where did you get that rental?
4) Tool.

The one guy that called me a tool was actually in his car at the intersection with the hood up frustrated cause it was broken and he was trying to fix it. I drove by on my phone and he called me a tool.

I got off the phone, turned around, drove up to him really slow and said "Hey buddy, thats a really nice car you got, you fucking tool bag"

I swear the guys veins on his forehead almost burst, I thought he was going to chase my car, but I did it because that is the worst thing I could of said to that guy cause I know his mind set.. I usually just laugh it off at the people and not get in there face, because you will either get shot, or they are so deranged they will follow you and go key your car later that day.

Types of people that talk shit

1) People your own age in shittier cars. 18 to eary 20's
2) People around 35-45, they seem to take it the hardest

at the same time, you meet alot of cool people that are around your age in similar cars, because there is a mutual respect, you've all been through the same bullshit.

sure but i believe if you teach the kids right they'll see right through all that ghetto bullshit which is full of materialism anyways. have you ever seen that show 'the princes of malibu'? perfect example of kids who were handed everything to them their whole lives and know despite whatever threats that if they work or not, their lifestyle will be paid for.

you can still give your kid a great life full of everything you provide them. your home can still be a place to get away with the world with all the luxuries you have bought for yourself or the family but for things such as their own cars, their own plasma tvs and a nice apartment for 1k a month are things to be earned, not given. teach the bird how to fly...as gay as that sounds.

I agree with you, it makes me sick. I mean, are these kids ever gonna learnd any work ethics, or have respect for things if mommy and daddy give them everything they want? Does a 16 year old have any business driving a brand new mercedes benz? If parents want to teach their kids something, they should make them work for what they have!
