Man this sucks....

Every time I turn my pc on it reboots. I have no clue why.

"Checking file system on C. One of your disks needs to be checked for consistrncy you may cancel the disk check, but it is strongly recommended you contine."

I think I need a new pc.

Could it be the power supply? Or the cpu over heating?

I've got two processors and they're plenty cooled. Power supply never really "shuts off".

Sometimes I can get into Windows, not my Monitor just keeps flashing. In a few hours it will probably be something different...or even work.

My searching has turned up a potential software issue and a virus of some sort.

sure it can be....but since it reboots at steady interval, doesn't stay off, no smoke, and cpu's are cool it sounds like a virus to me.

Open the case and make sure all the boards are completely seated. Try running it while the cover is off to make sure your coolers are actually still doing their job properly. If you can get online long enough try the tools on these pages:

A steady interval could still be hardware related.

Have you run System Restore?

I just went through a hell of a day the other day. I rebooted and the damn system kept rebooting itself as soon as it went through the bios check and before it loaded windows it would reboot, I tried it in safe mode and safe mode didnt even work tried to restore and remake the MBR and that didnt work nothing I did worked, I hooked up another hd and installed 98 then xp home and hooked up the old hd found two viruses dont remember what they were called cleaned the hard drive hooked the first one back up and it just died

cards that are not seated properly give errors...they don't reboot your machine
on a regular interval

This is probably what I'm going to have to do. Hopefully it won't die on me.

I've got some stuff on there I don't think I had backed up yet. I have some of what I need burned on DVD, just not sure how much...if any, I'd lose.

Right now I'm not even getting an OS boot. Just a flashing monitor.

Tried 4 different video cards in all the slots, I'm guessing that's got nothing to do with it.

The case is open, plenty of cooling on the processors. The power supply and everything is running. I can unplug, plug and start up and get to windows...but for maybe 60 seconds tops.

Correct.

I had this problem on my older PC. Would do this over and over. Problem was hardware. Onboard sound card, and add on sound card. So it was a hardware conflict.

Fixed in BIOS. Let run through it's cycle for the HD's whatever, and never had it again. Was very annoying, so I can feel your pain. Unfortunately, with computers sometimes you have to be patient, and go through one by one hardware, and software to illiminate problems, conflicts, check viruses, and so on.

Doing a complete reinstall should be the last option. A lot of people seem to enjoy doing this every time they hit a bug, but I think it's for lack of patience. You just need to go through process of illimination, and you will normally find some conflict, driver, setting, or something out of whack.

i have the same problem. when it starts to check your c file, just hit any key before it finishes checking that file. (you have like 10 seconds to do it) then it's back to normal.

for me anyway.

it only happens when i shut my computer down completely. if i hibernate, it doesn't happen at all.
