Ugly tatts, lame tatts, and people who get tatts just because they think it'll make them cool all suck. But otherwise, the more tatts the better! (And no, I am not a sailor... I just swear like one.)

tattoo's don't spread as much as they used to .. the new inks are much better .... not to many new tatts will look like those blue blobs that the sailors in your generation have now ..... you also have to realize that personally i do it for me ..in 30 years I'm looking at a blurred tatt ... it will still have the same meaning to me and that's all that matters ...

myjah 09-28-2005 05:29 PM

I don't like way too many tattoos, but overall I think they're ok. Depends on the person, the tattoo, and where it is.

seeric 09-28-2005 05:31 PM

you=metro.

metro don't have tattoo normally. :)

thats ok, we accept you ;)

Barefootsies 09-28-2005 09:14 PM

Nah. I do not care for them either. I think they are tacky. But I understand people use them as a form of expression.

:pimp

shermo 09-28-2005 09:21 PM

If the tat means something to you, go for it. I have 2, and are both ode's to my Irish Heritage. It may mean shit to you, but I didn't get it to please anybody but myself. We'll see how it looks in 50 years. For the last 8, it looks perfect and people still ask if it was just inked.

gornyhuy 09-28-2005 09:29 PM

yeah, just not my style ... could be because of all the redneck alcoholic ex-cons in my family that are all tatted up.

Platinumpimp 09-28-2005 09:30 PM

I am with ya bdjuf. I dislike tattoo's myself. Some see it as a peronalization of the body, others see it as being somewhat insecure.

How do you see it as insecure .. I never looked at it that way so I'm just curious ?

I didn't want to say that because I respect many people who also happen to have tattoos... but I see them the same way also. People can't accept themselves for who they are so they have to customize with tats. Hard not to see that as insecure in a way. :(

I guess i can see that ... it could apply to some ..not all .. I kinda see it the other way for me .. I've always loved the art of tattoo and no one else in my family has them.. I know that people pre-judge when they see my arms but i feel that i'm secure enough with myself to not let that bother me

on the flip side i think that people that are insecure are more likely not to get them because of the added attention you'll get .... i guess there's a million reasons to get or not get one .. it's a personal choice ..

You are right as well. My comment made all people with tattoos stereotype insecure people, while only a (small) part of them might actually be.

:2 cents:

for platinumpimp too

valid point - also entertain the opposite - a person being secure with themselves who think and live life to please themselves.

MOST people cant grasp this concept or cant accept that people actually think this way and allude it to an insecurity BECAUSE of their own insecurities.

MOST people dont have the capacity to entertain thoughts other than what their parents taught them - what is and isnt accepted social behaviours ect as well as thinking/acting/questioning outside the parameters set forth by society.

then again everyone is entitled to their opinion.

strength is a character that is admired and loathed at the same time.

and talk about insecure, you are guilty of that in your statement above.

youre afraid to say what you mean and you contradict yourself doing so.

in one sentence you say you "didnt want to say this" which really means " i dont wanna hurt anyones feelings because because i disagree with them and i dont want to look like an insensitive asshole for being honest" which translates insecure in my book.

then you go on to say you have no respect for people with tatts because tatts are a sign of insecurity.

but how can you have respect for those that are insecure?

oh you respect their feelings and youll say you do like the person ect

if you have no respect for tattoos, then you have none for those adorning them.

you dont have respect for people with tattoos.

thats ok.

also

why do you wear your hair the way you do?

the clothes you wear?

the music you listen to?

the food you eat

the friends you have

the person you fuck

the people you love

the things you hate

the car you drive

ect

the list is endless and so can the discussion of this topic :1orglaugh

jonesy 09-28-2005 11:41 PM

fuck i forgot the most important part

read up on adornament - its been going on since day one. :thumbsup

Carlos Mencia did a piece on Tattoos on a monologue about tribal tattoos. He made a great point that a lot of people get tattoos that are perhaps not appropriate or accurate. Namely white guys with tribal tattoos.

Some guy stood up and said he had a tribal. Typical white guy.

Carlos said something to the effect, "and what tribe are you in Chad?"

I fucking love it. I see myself more as a art collector/gallery then an insecure person to be honest :winkwink:

Tattoo's are one of the oldest and primitive way of expression. Just like dressing up, dancing and chanting.

Warriors, Monks, Preists, Kings and Queens have been using this art/communication form for thousands of years.

Tattoo is a way to live part of your life depending on what you choose it to be.

To each is own as long as there is respect :2 cents:

adultchica 09-29-2005 03:37 PM

I haven't gotten a tattoo yet ever but I do have a couple of piercings. Do piercings offend you too?

try and learn to read between the lines.

i was being sarcastic and a bit tongue in cheek, pointing out the obvious. if that wasnt obvious maybe you need to get high and loosen up ... :1orglaugh

i saw that episode - mencia is a fucking funny dude.

your going to quote a comic on the validity of who should get certain types of tattoos?

tatttoos should only be appropriate/acurate/exclusive for one group of people and not another?

:1orglaugh

i didnt know art had to be exclusive to one race/ethnicity/culture/nationality/heritage and not shared, admired or adorned by/with others.

I think you're way off. It really all depends on the person, but if you're stating that the only way to accept yourself for who you are is to stay in your natural born state, then lets throw hair cuts and such into the argument aswell... Most of the time someone gets a tattoo I'm guessing its not to become someone that they are not, (rest assured there are people like that, but not many), but to express something that they mean, or feel strongly about. :2 cents:

I can appreciate a good tattoo . I personally don't have any and won't until something drastic happens in my life and I wanna leave a mark on my body for ever...
