Is there something that can rip data from an HDD as an image?
Here's the deal, mye xternal drive with all my work data and personal backups decided it was no longer worth living anymore. It pwoers up and the computer sees it but the HDD light stays solid and the devic cannot be accessed. This ia after a few days of constant clicking and the win2k even viewer shows critical errors associated with bad blocks.
Is there a utility that I can sue that may be able to just rip the data from it in a raw format then recompile it into files on anotehr hdd? |

Maybe its just the external housing thats defect? Why not open it up -> get the harddisk out -> put it inside your computer and see if it works.
If thats too technical: there are data recovery programs out there that do what you described. Just make sure the error is not in the external HD-holder because that might fuck up shit more. |

i dropped another HDD in the enclosure and it worked fine, so it's definately the drive. I may try opening it up and seeing what happens after exhausting all other avenues.
