This is scary stuff...

I just finished reading this article from the Guardian (UK newspaper) about this guy arrested by the London police for "acting suspicious" in the tube.
It`s really scary how basic citizen rights are being eroded here and this will only get worse.

You know, depends on how suspicious. If they are acting nervous, backpack and other shit, then I would be concerned.

Well, the guy had a backpack, a coat and checked his messages on his cell phone on the station. And he didn`t look at the police when he entered the tube station.
Apparently that was reason enough to detain him and even take DNA samples from him.

Well let's see. Let's run two different potential realities side by side.

In one, some people are inconvenienced by the police and there is one bomb attack per year.

In another, no-one is inconvenienced by the police and there are 5 bomb attacks per year.

I think I'd rather have my limbs intact and perhaps suffer the occasional inconvenience.

For anyone who thinks it's more important to never be stopped by the police for behaving suspiciously than to live in greater safety, I would suggest that they cut off their arm, gouge out one of their eyes and go and live in a country which does not give a crap about protecting it's citizens from terrorists.

that is fucked up.

i think last week the m15 said at a confrence that basic civil rights will have to be eroded in order to better protect against terrorists.

the only terrorists here are the govn't using a policy of fear and funding ppl who fund ppl who fund terrorists to promote said fear in order to gain control over the public.

this policy is not new and has been used by Nero, Hilter (before state facisim) and bush

So from your post I gather that you would be quite comfortable if one day the police detained you, took your stuff, searched your place, took DNA samples from you and very probably entered your record in to database never to be deleted again (just in case), just because you decided to wear a jacket and check your phone for messages.
It would be all right with you because that would make your country "safer".

It`s always easy when it happens to someone else....

Well, I'm quite a reasonable person, and I'm older than 15 (so I don't think it's fashionable to hate the police/ the state), so if the police had cause to suspect that I was a security risk then yes, I'd be ok with that (but I must say that it's extremely unlikely that I would be singled out in the first place). Because it's the police's job to make us safer. And here in the UK the police are pretty cool.

That`s just the thing.Do you think this guy had any reason to believe he could be singled out as a security risk when he left his home??
Did you read the article?

BTW I`m also older than 15 and I don`t think it`s fashionable either to hate the state/police.

Actually the terrorist are resonably intelligent. Look at how many bombing their are. Our reaction, such as example a that article, then look at how many terrorist bombings they stop. The've figured out that they can cause a ripple in our society with a bombing then sit back and laugh. Then when its all calming back down they strike again.

Also In iraq they harm our forces more by burying landmine in por holes, and on the side of the road. Even laying fave IED's on the road for a decoy an hiding the real explosive around the area. You swerve to avoid what could be an explosive, tire goes off the road and BOOM!, you run over the real mine buried on the shoulder.
