Please help me understand.....

I was review my stats for last week and found that the number one search frased used to find my site is:

www.ampcontent.com

WTF? Are people so stupid that they know the url but they do not know how to enter it in the browser so they use it in a search engine to find my site?

That trick is sometimes used by people at work surfing for porn.

Going directly to somewhere like google.com and typing in the address of the site they want to visit helps them to avoid certain monitoring software installed by their employer.

I believe it also has some kind of effect on the cache - the site that they want to visit won't be cached on the computer, or something like that.

Also, if you take a look at the address bar in IE, it has a list of previously typed URLs. Looking at mine now, it has images.google.com, refer.ccbill.com, www.hushmail.com, www.russiansubmitter.com, www.amazon.co.uk and a few others. Not everyone knows how to get rid of that list, and it really doesn't look good if the boss is using the PC later and finds something like shit-eating-lesbians-666.com on the drop down of the address bar. Many companies also have the PC locked up... its not possible to enter the control panel, browse c:, etc. Just a security feature to help stop malicious users... so its not easy to install Eraser software (or any software at all) at work or college.

The easiest way is to go undetected is to go to www.google.com and type in the address of the site that you want to go to... that way, it won't be recorded.

I guess some webmasters... a lot of webmasters... have been surfing for content at work.

OMG.
Fucking unbelievable.
I had to read more about this to see if it stirred any shit so here is a snip from an AP report:

-snip-

(02-07) 07:56 PST NEW YORK (AP) --

MSNBC has apologized for a typographical error that turned the name of an interview subject into a racial slur.

The network on Monday aired an interview about the Enron case with Republican consultant Niger Innis. The onscreen graphic identifying Innis, who is black, had an extra "g" in his first name.

Shortly after it appeared, correspondent Gregg Jarrett offered Innis a "profuse apology."

"Oh, God, I thought you guys thought I was a rapper or something," Innis replied. "Media bias continues. Just kidding. It's not the first time it's happened, but hopefully it's the last."

It was strictly a typographical mistake, network spokesman Mark O'Connor said Thursday. He wouldn't say whether any disciplinary action was taken against the person who made the blunder.

actually idinternet.. i don't buy that.. among the top 20 most searched for terms are hotmail.com, yahoo.com and cnn.com hardly stuff you have to erase.. people are pretty uneducated when it comes to doing a lot of stuff online.. don't forget the VAST amount of people who might only go online once or twice a week/fortnight/month whatever.. theres nothing sneaky about what the majority of them are doing.. they either don't know any better, confused or they're lazy enough to not care where they type it as long as it gets them there..

Yup... but I know for a fact, hotmail is 'banned' in college. So put two and two together...

Yeah, some people are just lazy. If you're already at Google, whats the point of moving the mouse up the screen, clicking, and typing in www. and .com when you don't have to? Fuck it... just type hotmail, press return and click.

I still think Soul Rebel is a dumbass though.
