What's a good camcorder to start with?
Not for a pro set-up but if it's affordable & looks pro, all the better. Just to record band performances / practices, so quality sound and picture would be nice.

just make sure it has 3ccds, don't think you can do it for a grand though, maybe its been a while since i looked
try looking for a used sony vx2000, they are great cameras built like tanks and have 3 - 1/3" ccds for excellent low light performance. For filming bands you will need low lux performance and that model camera should be widely available used. |

3 ccd's does not always guarantee low-light performance. i have this camcorder http://www.dvspot.com/reviews/panaso..._gs250-review/ but for low-light, i wouldn't recommend it.
http://www.dvspot.com/ check out the reviews here. any camcorder that has a pro review includes videos in low light so you can be sure.

WOW, I can see why. It has 1/6 th inch ccds. That camera is an exception to the rule. You can look at the size of it and tell that. Neat little camera though. Will it let you manually adjust exposure? As a general rule of thumb though any 3 chip camera is going to do better in lowlight compared to 1 chip. |
