Man convicted of manslaughter for "causing" heart attack

2 cousins jump on a guy at a party and beat the shit out of him. When he gets up he goes running after one of them with a knife and the guy has a heart attack and drops dead. Yesterday he was convicted of manslaughter and is awaiting sentence up to 19 years.

The next step is convicting someone who tells somebody something that either upsets them enough that they work themselves up to a stroke or heart attack or kill themselves.

The guy is lucky I don't write the laws because since the circumstances of his death don't make any difference to the victim, I would have only a single crime of murder. Come to that, I wouldn't reward someone whose dumb luck or incompetence caused their murder attempt to fail, so attempted murder would carry the same penalty as murder. Add in dangerous driving, driving under the influence, etc, etc.

It is ludicrous that people who, whether deliberately or through thoughtlessness, act with equal disdain for the lives of others, but are treated differently once they arrive in court.

Jeeze... Last year I was riding down the beach front (I was the only car on the street) and slowed down to 5mph to look at a bunch of pelicans then proceeded to normal speed going home a couple blocks away. A cop who had been sitting at an intersection flew out and pulled me over wanting to check me for sobriety and claimed that I was all over the lane, then gave me a ticket for wreckless driving. Do you really think I should be in prison serving the same time as vehicular homicide becaue a cop wanted to be an asshole?

The person across the street is not "involved" in the crime. But if it is an armed robbery in a bank, and an old lady in the bank has a heart attack, then yes, LEGALLY the robber is responsible.
