I wouldn't worry about a cat 2 or 3 as in freaking out. I would however be pissed because you will most likely be without power / phone / cable as more inland places aren't setup to handle high winds.

I heard some Galveston Official on AM News Radio here in So Cal this AM.

He had been on the Highway since noon his time yesterday and had only traveled about 120 miles... I guess the Highway(s) are just jam packed...

Rita is the size of the entire gulf of mexico.. and now they are talking about cities as far away as Dallas getting Class 1 Hurricane winds.

If the banks would not give you money.. or if they had ran out of money.. which I see as totally feasible in a situation like this... but what about travelers checks or will travelers checks not be honored you feel?

Good luck JupZ

Hope you can get your hands on a cheap boat. Anything that will float. Even a John boat rocks in a flood. Atleast you'll be alive.

leave it up to the media to cause mass panic. Lousiana was hit hard because the city itself was already under sea level!!

They run out of cash = Bank president calls the the nearest Federal Repository and says we're out of cash. They send an armored truck with more. Expect that to take a couple hours.

Guess word to the wise is that we should all have a stash of cash on hand just incase somethng like this comes up.

any disaster preparedness will tell you to always have a full tank of gas and cash (includeing coins) as one of the MANY things you should have at a moment's notice.

i got so freaked out by katrina that i bought my so cal earthquake kit and i'm passing out printouts from the LAFD website on how to shut the gas off to our buidling (so it doesn't fucking explode after the big one)

there's a VERY sobering pdf link on here:
http://www.lafd.org/disaster-prep.htm

I can't leave either! I'm right there with ya. I got enough food and water supplies, but couldn't afford the 500$ generator Home Depot had left. They only had that one left and it was jacked up on price.

Good luck man! I hope I will be posting in here alive and well by the end of next week and that you will be too.

You should always have cash on you anyway....Plus a debit card attached to your bank account can get you a hotel room, gas, food, etc. etc.
