Sounds like he has nothing to gain from it. But it sounds like hes trying to get your domain shut down or suspended for spamming.

Happened to me too in the past. Juicy is right, nothing you can do. With bulk email software people can type in any "from" address and start spamming to make it seem like your domain is spamming. If it is not coming from your server then your host will not do anything.

Fuckers did that to me, too. They must have just decided to use my domains because they sound cool, they were type-in domains, never promoted in any way, but great domains. At that time I had wildcard email system, so anything@ came to me. I was getting hundreds of bounces and complaints per hour and I expected the anti-spam guys to fuck with me, but to my surprise not one peep out of them. I think they know about sender spoofing, they ignore it.

unless your domain is less than about a week old you won't have any problems as far as getting the domain name suspended. It happens all the time and spamhaus/spamcop and the companies already know it exists.

IIRC when IP9 or whatever becomes standard this can be stopped, dunno if thats true but I hope it is

Your host should understand its not you doing the spamming. Other than a couple thousand bounces and complaints, I wouldn't worry. It'll pass and they'll move to a new target soon enough.

Try filtering the email and letting your hosting company know whats going on so they don't accuse you of anything.

I had the same problem too! It's some bullshit. But most places can see the IP address that it came from (most of the time) and if it's not yours, don't sweat it!

Have you scanned your PC? Many trojans are actually built to do this.

I recommend virus scan, Spybot and Ad-Aware.

I'm not the most technical person in the world, but I found the following info at www.dnsreports.com when something similiar happened at my old host. This is what it told me:

"Your domain does not have an SPF record. This means that spammers can easily send out E-mail that looks like it came from your domain, which can make your domain look bad (if the recipient thinks you really sent it), and can cost you money (when people complain to you, rather than the spammer). You may want to add an SPF record ASAP, as 01 Oct 2004 was the target date for domains to have SPF records in place (Hotmail, for example, started checking SPF records on 01 Oct 2004). "

spf doesnt exactly stop spammers from using the domain it just means places like hotmail will add "spam points" with their spam filters

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I wasn't sure from the reading if that meant having it added would stop it or not.
