Has anyone ever offered a paysite lease-to-purchase? How do you do that?

    Has anyone ever offered a paysite lease-to-purchase? How do you do that?

    My questions are:

    How common is the idea for a complete pay site to be leased-to-purchase?
    How should I go about doing it?
    What kinds of things should I beware of?

    I have never offered a site lease-to-purchase.
    What should I give the new buyer as collateral upon receipt of an interesting down payment and signed lease agreement?
    Should I actually transfer the domains to them upon receipt of the down payment and keep control of the scripts and files as collateral?

      Keep control of the name for sure, no reason at all to give that up until it's paid in full IMO. That and maybe a master admin user name/ password for the scripts.. But that might be harder to do.

          Good idea. I feel like I should give part collateral and more as the payments are made, but maybe that's not a great idea.

          As far as the scripts etc, I would continue to host the sites and databases until they were paid in full. I have 100mbit and pretty much unlimited storage.

          I would keep root access.

                  I produce entire websites these days from exclusive content to the complete design.

                  It all varies really and you need to set up various options for a wide variety scenerios.
                  Basically it pretty much breaks down to individual negotiations there is not one solid formula.

                      I guess you're right in the end. Do you know if there is any standard paperwork to start something like this with, or I suppose it may have to be completely drafted from scratch my an intellectual property attorney.

                          I will give ya hint.

                          Think of yourself more as a producer in the mainstream sense, not an adult sense and you will be onto somthing nice;)
