New Online Payment option in Holland

4 Big Dutch banks launch a new payment option. Payment by ATM card.
The new system allows surfers to make online payments with their normal
ATM card. The system interfaces with their online bank account. Upon
payment the system connects to the online bank account of the user.
The user logs in, verifies the data by swiping his card through their card
reader, insert their pin code, key in a challenge code and respond with a
1 time response code to complete payment.

This system will allow surfers that don't have a credit card to make realtime
online payments. The costs are fixed rate ?0,70 per transaction. This could
be an interesting development.

In Europe credit cards are not as common as in the US this will open a new
market of people that previously weren't able to buy ANYTHING online.

This comes from the site of 1 of the participating banks:

Quote:
About iDEAL
iDEAL is the save and easy standard for direct payments on the Internet.
More then 5 million potential buyers on the Internet can pay with iDEAL.
An iDEAL payment is irrevocable and the result of the payment is directly available.
A positive result of the payment means a garanteed payment.
So NO chargebacks :-)

Here in Holland they do......you get them FREE from your bank as you need the
same reader / calculator for online banking.....Postbank is the only bank of the
4 that doesn't use a cardreader....they use a code card with numbers to verify
their users......again supplied by the bank for FREE

I watched the rabobank demo. It's the same system as they already had "rabo direct betalen". They already had that for years. The only difference is that it's now also possible with the other banks.

anyone know offhand whether this payment method would lend itself to the traditional subscription w/ recurring billing model, or is this a one-time payment method only? i assume there isn't a current backend system for adding pw-pairs at this early stage either..?

sounds interesting, i'd be willing to give it a shot for sure if viable..

handing out logins could easily done yourself based on the response code
you'll recieve upon successfull transaction. I don't know yet if recurring sales
are available yet.....should be easy to implement...as it could work the same
as auto-debits which are being used to pay for example utilities bills.

Considering the fact that each transaction is an ATM (PIN) one, I kind of assume that this is a one transaction-per one action solution only.

I am not sure though.

I wonder what they are planning to do with porn " service"/subscription transactions though. Is there any news on that?

hmm for recurring they need to change a key feature.....as with this model it
takes user interaction to complete payment.....so I guess for now the answer
is no......

I see a logical solution though......by authorising recurring payments on the

Some of the banks involved have closed down accounts of clients because they run an adult business. So I wonder if they even allow you to use this system for adult at all.

Why would'nt they? as long as you pay the transaction fee...

The decision of a bank to not have an account for an adult company is very
different than deciding that none of their clients can pay for goods which
they want to buy......

We are very up-to-date about all the ins- and outs of this system and will soon start to offer this to our clients. We have attended several seminairs about it and have spoken with the developers for a smooth and fast integration.

Unfortunately, recurring payments will not be available in the near future.

The card doesn't differ much but in order to pay with iDeal
it has to be issued by one of the banks participating because the transaction
has to be verified by the client through his online banking system and therefor
cards from other (foreign) banks cannot be accepted yet.

ABN Amro and ING are the most adult-non-friendly banks, although some adult business' (even some big ones) are customers of these banks. It all depends on who you speak to and what kind of business you do.

The easiest to get an adult account is Postbank (which is part of ING). It seems everybody can get an account there.

Every bank in the world should just issue Visa or Mastercard check/debit cards. I don't understand why some do and some don't.

I think it's more how you present it. There are many ways to do this....Banks
are afraid to be associated with porn...and therefor lose customers....so don't
"sell" yourself or your company as cyberpimp

I've been investigating this payment option but be aware they have put the launch of a few times and they are still testing the system.

Also, it will encompass a bit more then just using a pin code to do your banking (from an end user perspective) But if you have any questions hit me up anytime!
