Both on galleries and freesites.
How effective is it? Is it best to put that at the bottom (on galleries) and on galleries pages (for freesites)?
How good or bad is it for conversion?
Any other thoughts?

Like: "Instant Access for only $4.95"

I've found it works well for ratios. The customer knows what to expect. As far as the total numbers its hard to say.

Of course it helps for the conversion ratio "paysite views":sales (since the people that clicked the links already know they have to pay) it won't help for the "gallery views":"paysite views" ratio.

What you want from your gallery is, imo, as much people as possible going to your paysite. Mentioning a price is not going to help in that I think. So I wouldn't do it.

mentioning the price would filter the freeloaders and the link/s will mostly be clicked by people ready to pay for porn.

i'm not so sure getting as many people to click and go to the paysite works, especially if those people are looking for more free porn, and you'll end up seeing a 1:50,000 ratio

Why would you bother if there are a lot of freeloaders going to the paysite? If you mention the price, you have the chance that one surfer that normally is a freeloader, but that would pick up his credit card after seeing the paysite, is not even seeing the paysite.

The purpose of a gallery is to warm surfers up and drive them to the paysite so they see what great content they get when they pay.

Take it more extreme, which link do you think will give you a better "gallery views":sales ratio (that's the only ratio that is important) on a great gallery that really did warm up the surfer for more:

WARNING - CLICK HERE AND YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY WITH YOUR CREDIT CARD

or

CLICK HERE FOR MORE HOT ACTION

Don't tell me the first one, that is a big turn off for a surfer. Most decisions to pay for a paysite are made by surfers because they're horny and want to see some action. Of course mentioning a price doesn't have to be as bad as my first example, but you just shouldn't do it. It's the same reason why casinos play with chips instead of real money, you don't want the surfer to think about the money, you want to keep him focused on being horny.
