I have been certified since I was 16 from NASDS back in 1986. I actually moved to the Cayman Islands for 4 years just to dive and work. Great shallow water reefs and awesome wall dives. Great place to see Eagle Rays and Marlin hugging the wall at 130'.
I will do the Red Sea one day.Comment

I'm NAUI certified, also, and have a SLAM cert. I worked in a dive shop all through college and we did the majority of our dives in FL- a lot at Ginnie Springs and Vortex Springs. Every 3 months we'd charter a bus and go down to the Keys and certify 30 or 40 people at a time. They'd do all their open water dives, night dives, and their deep water dive at the Duane.Originally posted by leedsfanhey ditto.

Any of the Bay Islands will be fabulous. Roatan is really popular and will be more crowded, but Utila is also a great place. There are tons and tons of dive shops, everywhere you look. I've been wanting to do this for quite some time. Did a lot of snorkeling in Mexico and it was amazing. I couldn't dive too far down when I wanted to though. How much does cost to get certified? I know there are a few places around here that do it.Comment

cold water bites.... We went diving off the channel islands (off of LA) and it was so cold I had to wear hood and gloves. Sucks ..I prefer warm water any day to cold.

I don't do well with the cold but remember I got certified in 54 degrees... in a dry suit though but at least it is something I am certainly prepared for...
I am going to bring both my dry suit and a seven millimeter wet suit and see which I prefer. I figure it will be great to lose all that when I dive warmer tropical waters but in the mean time it is still amazing fun any way you slice it.HomegrownCash.com, the affiliate program of Homegrown Video - The Largest Collection of Amateur XXX - Est. 1982.

diving off the channel islands is a big thing, lots of people go. I think our trip was 5 dives and it was from sunup to sundown. they had a cook on the boat and sleeping areas below. Its different then warm water thats for sure, not as much color. the people diving are different also. Off florida and the turks not destroying the reefs and killing the sea creatures was really harped on. When we went off the channel islands, we saw people beating on things with their knives, shooting at anything that moved with spear guns...just a different kind of people or diving, how ever you want to look at it.Muscle/Fitness Adult Affiliate Program

Yep, up here everyone seems conservation minded and the fish are really comfortable without being too "domesticated" as a result. I thought I would be all into getting into the spearfishing end (lord knows I love the sushi) but as soon as I swam with the fishes I lost the urge to kill them and now just want to get a camera.
I am not opposed to grabbing a crab or lobster though when it is legal to do so...HomegrownCash.com, the affiliate program of Homegrown Video - The Largest Collection of Amateur XXX - Est. 1982.
