Hmmm, how long does it take? I just did a quick online search and the place I found was closer to $500 but I would drive up to Seattle if it was just a day course or cheaper. That price I found was for NAUI. It says the open water certification dives are in puget sound anyway.

I live down in miami FL and have been certified for 4 years now, if anybody wants to go on a dive count me in, I love it

That price is about right for private lessons which you can do to get certified on a fast track but PADI courses here in seattle (my local shop is called lighthouse, 206-524-1633) and the non private courses there are under $300 which I think gets you the open water cert and dry suit course if you choose to go that way.

ah, see now i have dove Catalina. I used to go there every tuesday for 3 years. Amazing diving, in the bay...kelp beds house some beautiful scenes.
