Microsoft To Buy AOL? Negotiations In The Works?

This is enough to put me back on junk food.

Just saw on the news KTLA during their business news that AOL may end up being bought by Microsoft? Time-Warner wants to dump AOL so they figure they'll make a mint on selling it to Big Bill?

Intellectual property rights. gotta be worth a billion or two right there.

Trademarks, patents, etc. that's another billion or two.

Liabilities from lawsuits unknown but it's gotta be in the billions.

This'll be interesting to see.

The new management will probably uncover all kinds of shit the public didn't know about AOL.

last i checked AOL hasn't made any profit since 1999. i think there was only one year when they actually made money, all the other years they've been burning it like its going out of style.

Timer Warner has been wanting to dump AOL since even before they merged.

I do hope Gates gets it and fixed up that piece of shit.

There's nothing to fix, their entire business model is built on dying technology.

Would a takeover like this get approved by the financial authorities?

Yeah fix it by shutting that shit down for good. The intelectual property will be worth billions and billions for years to come. (Netscape, ICQ, Winamp, etc) so why bother with a shitty business that just gonna keep oin bleeding money.

It's two different sectors of the market, it'd have to be.
if MIcrosoft planned on buying out it's software comptetitor than no.
this isn't goign to create a monopoly unless they argue that it's going to monopolize teh way people get online, which it wouldn't
