My thoughts on the Mayor / Marketing strategy.

All of you people condemning the strategy, the look and feel, the code used, should all keep things in perspective: They skinned the board (not an inexpensive venture), came up with a nifty way to get some attention with the code and launched what looks to be a nice, high-end product that can make a lot of people good money.

I hate the Marketing strategies on this board. Many people and programs on this (and other) board(s) think they are "publicity savvy" when they post stupidity. It is refreshing to see that not everyone adheres to poor marketing. I hardly read any threads on this board, I am not all that entertained by drama.

This had a point. The board is slow, but it isn't their fault and things will be back to normal shortly, I am sure of that. I happen to think the skin is nice. The text is hard to read? When hasn't it been? Unless it is black text on a white background, it isn't usually easy to read

I think it was a great job all around, however I understand my opinion is not always that popular.

So it goes I suppose....

I agree with you Cory.. The marketing promotion is great! It's too bad someone had to go and post the code for the user name though... It just dilutes the effectiveness of the marketing genius behind it.

Haha, I know right. That code must have really slowed down the board.

It took me a few minutes to realize the original thread was not aimed at me! But I am not the brightest on these boards...

I do believe the GFY team did not think this code joke over. They should have anticipated major abuse.

it's not the concept that is bad.. cos it was very effective and definitely grabbed the attention..

like I said in another thread, it's all these 'trolls' who have to start tens of threads using the same formula .. they dilute the power of it and make it overly annoying to participate on the board

for example, I will ignore all threads with my name in it at the moment.. now what if someone actually wanted to get a hold of me by using my username in a thread title? - well then they'd be shit out of luck - therefore it has the potential to affect business in a negative way

I'm sure the GFY mods will get on top of it at some point - as for the skin.. I have no probs with it personally - it makes me feel all hulked out

Yes the code changes did slow it once the trolls started exploiting it, but it was fun for a while. It was a bit of a gamble considering the traffic GFY gets, but the bottom line is we try and keep the advertiser's happy. I'm not going to give out the numbers of page views this place gets, but I think most would shit a green brick if they saw the page view tallies. Skinning the board is always something that requires some bit of experimenting, and I've done a few tweaks throughout the afternoon and evening to make Mayor's Money happy with the skin and the effects.

Let's blame it all on that stupid new board admin. Ooops!! That would be me.

The board slowing comes with the territory when you have a site of this magnitude. I think you guys did a great job. I would rather see you guys accomodating advertisers and useful posters than catering to drama threads.

I think it went well. Good job all around.
