How to stop a disaster

read this:

What we have witnessed in the last month is the equivalent of a major military or terrorist attack on a major city. 6 days to respond. People in America dying of starvation and dehydration. Why did it take so long?

There is no centralized system in this country that tracks resources to be used in emergency situations. The system I have been proposing could have been in place 6 months ago, could have instantly found the quickest and best routes to provide assistance.

Imagine, if this had been a small pox out break. It would have taken weeks to identify the epidemic. Months to locate or produce enough vaccine. Then to deploy it to the locations where most needed. The really sad thing is, with something like small pox, it'd be you kids under 35, that would be most likely to be infected, while old people like me have partial immunity.

The system that is absolutely essential for our national security must do three things.
1. Know the location of available resources
2. Identify trends, symptoms and location of greatest need
3. Deploy and track inventory and personnel in the most efficient manner.

The new model has always made provision for expedited deployment of medications to the place where most needed, but could easily be modified to track any commodity. What we have just witnessed is the greatest human tragedy of all time, not the hurricane, but in the richest country in the world, it took so long to get help where it was needed.

There were some of our leaders, who did not even interrupt their vacation to do their job. I am embarrassed by our government. People were killed. An 10 year old girl was raped and her ankles broken. She was not the only one. 100 police had to retreat, because they were being shot at by thugs. The mayor of New Orleans(I like this guy) had to tell them, "to cut out the God damn press conferences and get off their asses and get them some help". His words not mine.

It's time for the government and special interest to step aside and let technology evolve. Looking back on history, it like telling Edison not to invent the light bulb, because it would screw up the wax business. To all my friends in the press and government that have beat the hell out of the legitimate businesses out here, to try to make yourself a name, it's time for you to get the hell out of the way, before you kill us all.

This hurricane was a small taste of what could happen. The response was so slow it was absurd. Innocent people are dead, and worse, because they(our leaders) haven't got their act together, and they're scared to death, we'll screw up the wax business.
