MLs may be available in Diesel. They are available in manual in other countries. However, I'm pleased with the mileage on my ML. Commuting i get over 18mpg. Highway I'm at about 24 mpg.

I think it's a great looking car but Mercedes for the first time ever is pushing style boundaries and getting a bit more risque with their designs. It wouldn't be my first choice, but it's a bold move for Mercedes and it's a fine car that serves the tweeners who can't decide between a wagon and an M Class.
