They`ll probably be out of the dishwasher before they start getting steamed.
They are immortal.I once found a plate of food someone left in the microwave totally covered in ants.
I set the mw for 5mins and when I opened it they were still alive for some reason.
I guess they are too small to be affected by it.

You're in South America? Once an Orkin guy told me that all of California's ant problems can be traced back to some ship carrying one hive of a particular species of them from Argentina around a hundred years ago.

Something about how Argentinian ants don't attack each other and seek to kill each other's queen as most ant species do, and instead group together while increasing the size of the hive...

Good article, this part is particularly menacing:

"It could be worse. Holway, the biology professor from UCSD, said Southern California residents may one day remember fondly the problems they used to have with Argentine ants. He said that's because Argentine ants could be replaced themselves within the next decade by a more terrifying alien invader ---- the red imported fire ant, an aggressive ant with the bite of a wasp sting."

"The red imported fire ant is common in 11 southern states; it found its way to California in 1998, and has caused Orange County to be placed under a state quarantine."

"The Argentinian ant was introduced into the south before the fire ant. And nobody talks about the Argentinian ant in the Southeast," Holway said. "And that implies that (fire ants) out-competed the Argentinian ants."

"And fire ants sting," he said. "Argentinian ants don't sting."

GREAT.

The easiest and cheapest way to wipe out ants is to buy a pack of instant grits. Can be found in any supermarket.

Leave a pile of it and let the ants eat it.

Poor bastards won't know what hit them. The instant grits they consume soaks up all of the moisture therefore killing the ant.

I had ants in my dishwasher this Spring. The Orkin man said they like the heat and humidity of the dishwasher, especially if it sits against the outside wall - it makes it easier for them to get in. You have to find their trail into the house and foam the fuck out of it; that's the only way to get rid of them.

I stopped using my dishwasher for weeks because I was tired of cleaning the ant carcases out of the filter. Gross! But once we found where they were getting in and zapped them, I can have my dishwasher back.

I once had an ant problem in my yard. I bought this stuff called Insecolo, it's a honey-based powder, and sprinkled it all around the outside of my house. The ants carry particles of it to their queen, she eats it and then dies. The rest of the colony died soon after and it was end of story...... goodbye ant problem.

That shit works.

I wash my counters with Pine Sol, keeps them off those.

Though overall if your house was built on what seems to be an anthill...doesn't seem like there's much I can do to stop them.

I did a google search on grits + ants... came back with this...

http://www.pestproducts.com/grits.htm

Could be a 'marketing' tool for pest control companies or it could be true... YMMV

Weird coz I once visited a friends house who has 2 feet high ant hill right inside his grandfather's room. The ant hill still have ants inside them but my friend's grandpa chose not to touch them or take the thing out of the house.

we were forced out of our first apt in SD by ants...the complex had exterminators in our apartment twice a week, but he couldn't keep them out...it was bad enough when i woke up and there was just a black swarm where the cat's food bowl used to be....it was worse when there were huge trails of them up and down and along all of the walls of the bathrooms...but when my gf woke up with ants crawling over her in the bed one night....we called a realtor the next day. now we just have spiders ;-)
