I tried plasma (42") and it sucked balls in the rez department. On top of that, it was kind of big. Was more of an experiment. I use a 26" Dell widescreen LCD now - kick ass, and priced relatively cheap:

I can't imagine there would be any unless you're watching net porn or something. Kinda crappy resolution for most things webmasters would be doing and not exactly pixel perfect.. but then again there are a few webmasters i've seen here say they still use 800x600... so who knows.. man 1280x1024 isn't enough for me.. im getting one of those 24" dell's soon..

I have a 42" plasma set up in my office connected to a pc with windows media PC. Use it more as a TIVO than I do as a computer though. But from time to time, I surf on it.

I've used my large screen to show models, (and myself ) live snaps while I am shooting, but it's overkill. My reg monitor works fine for daily work.

I use a plasma monitor. A TV wouldn't have the kind of resolution you need.

do yourself a favor and pass on the 24" Dell, its utter trash no matter how good the price... i've seen 5 of them now and all of them have atrociously uneven backlighting, along w/ the worst light spill around the bezel that i have ever seen on an LCD. you get what you pay for, go w/ a 21" or 23" from a better manufacturer if you want quality..

I havea Dell 24" and a Dell 20" Widescreen. None of the problems you're describing. I absolutely love it.

Dell is the most inconsistent monitor i have ever seen. i have 8 identical 17" monitors and each one had different colors, brightness, contrast. I had to pick and choose through those 8 and find 2 that were close for the dual monitor config and I still have issues with it. once i find a new video card i'm going to upgrade the monitors.

I have a couple 42" plasma TV/Monitors and the benefits are few (obvious ones) like: large screen size, ability to sit further away from PC i.e. on couch (with wireless mouse/kb), etc., and makes a great impression when meeting with clients/models, etc... PLUS worked well for music/video editing but not for webdesign due to rez & widescreen.

lots of drawbacks: screen rez is fair on my model. I had to connect my LCD monitor next to it (pass-through) whenever I needed to verify small text/numbers and when designing. and don't forget the high potential for screen BURN-IN. One of my plasmas still has a damn windows 98 logo on the corner of the screen and a partial TV news network info-ticker burned into it. oh, and they generate lots of heat - I have a very quiet fan constantly cooling the plasma (and the room) when I'm using it for extended periods of time.

but I still love plasmas. I'm considering upgrading to 60" when prices drop next year. if you're buying a plasma, try to buy the split-screen ones so you can surf and watch tv at the same time.

good luck.
