:stop Do you think the remaining people in New Orleans be evacuated with force?

Some want to tough it out and are in survival mode. Saw a pic in USA Today about a guy who saved enough water to take a shower. The solider is trying to get him to leave. There are shots on Cnn where the houses and streets look untouched by the flood. I think if people want to stay and hold on to what they have, they should be able to. Give them the 2 k that they are saying people are getting and let them rebuild. I know there is no water or electricity, but give these people a chance. Not trying to be a conspiracy theorist, but is there an alterior motive behind some unnecesarry evacuations?

no. if they wanna die or get sick, let'em stay. if they wanna "defend" their home, let'em stay. fuck it, they're probably all sick with something from that water anyways. the last thing we need is for them to get shipped to different states' shelters & spread it like wild fire.

let'em stay.

Why move them if they do not wish to be moved. Just stop giving them supplies and let them be. If they desire to live in decay and rivers of liquid death so be it.
Hell there is a lot of people living in swamps and extreme mountain areas without electricty and plumbing, I do not see the country trying to move them yet.

One thing's for sure, they're going to be. They're already taking away legal firearms so residents can't fight back.

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/09/08/na...gewanted=print

"Waters were receding across this flood-beaten city today as police officers began confiscating weapons, including legally registered firearms, from civilians in preparation for a mass forced evacuation of the residents still living here.

No civilians in New Orleans will be allowed to carry pistols, shotguns or other firearms, said P. Edwin Compass III, the superintendent of police. "Only law enforcement are allowed to have weapons," he said."

I didn't know the federal government could do that.

"But that order apparently does not apply to hundreds of security guards hired by businesses and some wealthy individuals to protect property. The guards, employees of private security companies like Blackwater, openly carry M-16's and other assault rifles. Mr. Compass said that he was aware of the private guards, but that the police had no plans to make them give up their weapons. "

Oh great, businesses and rich people can be protected but a guy can't protect his house and family.

I agree that if they want to stay, let them. But, you know someone out there would stay and end up dying and here comes the family to sue the government for not stepping in and saving them.

That's a tough call!

If it is determined by professional health officials to be a health risk in certain areas, I think the people that wish to stay should be forced to sign a waiver saying they understand and are willing to take the risk to stay in a hazard zone. Otherwise, I could see it now, if some of those people that are not forced to leave end up getting very sick or dying because of the health hazards, they will be saying they should have been forced to evacuate.

City attorney for New Orleans along with the police chief had a conference today and announced they are NOT going to force people to leave right now.

You know what? have them sign a waiver as a condition of being able to stay. I know it could be implied its under duress, but it would give the die hards a chance to stay in their beloved homes and city. I dont think there would be any(or many) court challenges by the families of anyone allowed to remain, if they got hurt or killed. It was their choice

I agree, but it's the liability issue at hand. If they don't evacuate them and they do get sick, some shyster lawyer will come along and make a federal case of it.

You can't win for losin'.

You're the only person bright enough to have mentioned this.

I was waiting for after the cleanup for this shit to take place. A friend from N'orleans whose family we're trying to help locate told me that during hurricane Betsy/Bessie the levees were broken so that the flood waters wouldn't affect the rich neighborhoods. The poor ones got flooded.

So now, with the poor and rich neighborhoods all fucked up and homeowners not having flood insurance and not being able to file for bankruptcy because of the new bankruptcy laws...

You got it, all that land will be sucked up to build things for business instead of saving the homeowners.

That's when the fists will fly.

and the land will be sucked up dirt cheap , because of the people under duress. If all the prime lands will be used for commercial purposes, N O will lose its character forever. It might as well have sunk

Looks as though that's what's been happening. I just watched the news where they dragged an elderly woman out of her place. It's sad. It's sad that they want to stay too. It's just a big heartbreak

Amish live without indoor plumbing, or electricity. Why not these people. Just dont give them help in a few weeks for free. If that call later and say we need to be taken out. Charge them!

Only in a country that has an aura with a need for "control" and where the govt has an attitude "we know what's best for you" would that shit happen. Others get off their asses and help the victims and quit trying to control them.

Next we will be hearing how they shot 50 for objecting to their "orders". Tho these will be "renegade citizens" who were out of contol.

I agree 100%! You know there has to be some hard core surviavalists that are prepared and want to stay on their own land and get right back to fixing shit up. The sooner you get out there and fix your shit up the better you will feel.

and on another note, I think that they should set up close by some temp housing like portables or tents mobile homes whatever for the people that are able to live and work at cleaning up their neihborhoods. Most of them need JOBS anyways. and why pay other people. Remember I said this is for people that are able and need a job.

Ask yourself, why all of a sudden is the government so concerned about getting all the eyeballs out of the area? Before the storm no one gave a flying fuck, now they care? Bull fucking shit!!!!!!!!!

They even tried to get a court order today to block the media from New Orleans which a judge ruled against!!

I'll tell you why.

1. They don't want anyone to see the body count when they start dredging bodies. Noticed how all of a sudden they're saying less people died? Lawsuits are going to be enormous. This is called damage control.

2. I heard they plan on going in with sharpshooters to kill all the remaining pets and animals. Anything that moves is going to be shot dead. If that gets on the media showing dogs and cats shot the American public will flip out.

3. They don't want the media or anyone else seeing the police using heavy force on citizens. That will show what a "police state" it really is.

Our government is looking so bad right now its scary.

People, worst things happened in the country I live in... There're wars every 10 years, homes had been destroyed in fire... But people stayed in their houses... Be sure, people can survive anything!

Let them stay and rebuild their homes!

That would be an incorrect statement - CNN filed a court order to allow news media to film after Gen. Honore announced he would not let the news media in during the body removal - the judge issued a temporary restraining order to allow media in for now with a hearing set for Saturday morning to decide the issue

This all happened at noon today at the same news conference where the General and the city attorney announced they would NOT be having a forced evacuation (that idea was dropped earlier today although they are still trying to get the word out to some of the splinter police precincts) - as a matter of fact they said they are basically through with the evacuation phase and they are going into the body recovery phase starting tomorrow.

Why would they send in sharpshooters for animals? That sounds redundant and a huge waste of resources..This place will take years to rebuild ,they might as well level the worse part of the city and start from scratch
