Some want to tough it out and are in survival mode. Saw a pic in USA Today about a guy who saved enough water to take a shower. The solider is trying to get him to leave. There are shots on Cnn where the houses and streets look untouched by the flood. I think if people want to stay and hold on to what they have, they should be able to. Give them the 2 k that they are saying people are getting and let them rebuild. I know there is no water or electricity, but give these people a chance. Not trying to be a conspiracy theorist, but is there an alterior motive behind some unnecesarry evacuations?
Do you think the remaining people in New Orleans be evacuated with force?

remember that Surpreme Court decision to let the government take your home for the betterment of the community?
think about it! -
no. if they wanna die or get sick, let'em stay. if they wanna "defend" their home, let'em stay. fuck it, they're probably all sick with something from that water anyways. the last thing we need is for them to get shipped to different states' shelters & spread it like wild fire.
let'em stay.Comment

Why move them if they do not wish to be moved. Just stop giving them supplies and let them be. If they desire to live in decay and rivers of liquid death so be it.
Hell there is a lot of people living in swamps and extreme mountain areas without electricty and plumbing, I do not see the country trying to move them yet.Comment

One thing's for sure, they're going to be. They're already taking away legal firearms so residents can't fight back.
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/09/08/na...gewanted=print
"Waters were receding across this flood-beaten city today as police officers began confiscating weapons, including legally registered firearms, from civilians in preparation for a mass forced evacuation of the residents still living here.
No civilians in New Orleans will be allowed to carry pistols, shotguns or other firearms, said P. Edwin Compass III, the superintendent of police. "Only law enforcement are allowed to have weapons," he said."
I didn't know the federal government could do that.
"But that order apparently does not apply to hundreds of security guards hired by businesses and some wealthy individuals to protect property. The guards, employees of private security companies like Blackwater, openly carry M-16's and other assault rifles. Mr. Compass said that he was aware of the private guards, but that the police had no plans to make them give up their weapons. "
Oh great, businesses and rich people can be protected but a guy can't protect his house and family.Comment

I agree that if they want to stay, let them. But, you know someone out there would stay and end up dying and here comes the family to sue the government for not stepping in and saving them.Comment

If it is determined by professional health officials to be a health risk in certain areas, I think the people that wish to stay should be forced to sign a waiver saying they understand and are willing to take the risk to stay in a hazard zone. Otherwise, I could see it now, if some of those people that are not forced to leave end up getting very sick or dying because of the health hazards, they will be saying they should have been forced to evacuate.Comment

City attorney for New Orleans along with the police chief had a conference today and announced they are NOT going to force people to leave right now.Comment

You know what? have them sign a waiver as a condition of being able to stay. I know it could be implied its under duress, but it would give the die hards a chance to stay in their beloved homes and city. I dont think there would be any(or many) court challenges by the families of anyone allowed to remain, if they got hurt or killed. It was their choiceOriginally posted by HonezI agree that if they want to stay, let them. I agree, but it's the liability issue at hand. If they don't evacuate them and they do get sick, some shyster lawyer will come along and make a federal case of it.Originally posted by After Shock MediaWhy move them if they do not wish to be moved.
